HAP BAKER FIREARMS FACILITY UPDATE
August 17, 2007 - The Carroll County Department of Recreation & Parks and Bureau of Purchasing
have completed the process of soliciting bids for the reconstruction of the rifle range at the Hap Baker Firearms
Facility. The bid has been awarded to GRC General Contractor, Inc. and the contract for the work was signed
today.
Construction is expected to begin almost immediately and to last for up to 45 working days. The
Department anticipates opening the rifle range before the first Black Powder hunting season in October to
provide hunters an opportunity to sight in their firearms prior to hitting the woods.
Additional information will be posted at http://ccgovernment.carr.org/recreation closer to a specific
reopening date for the rifle range. Please feel free to check back at this site or call 410-386-2102 to receive
updates and new information.

Yea, I figure I missed an entire summer of no crowds.  Hopefully it won't be too bad during the week.

very glad to hear the progress.  I would like to shoot two hundred yards without going to the Eastern Shore.

Initial rush plus the annual hunter sight-ins ... it's gonna be tough to get a bench from now until the end of the year.

Nice!
Looks like it will be fire proof this time - mostly cinder block and steel instead of 100% wood

I was able to get to Hap Baker Friday evening and Saturday morning. Range is pretty much back to normal. New benches with the same kind of wooden box to shoot through. No foam installed this time. There are no screens up yet between stations so expect to get hit with hot brass. The benches are far enough apart that it is not to bad. New spotting scopes, each with a tripod. I think they are a little nicer. It gave a decent picture of the 200 yrd target. Friday night must have been black rifle night. Half the people had an AR15. Saturday morning it was standing room only. I saw 4 people waiting for lanes. Lots of muzzle loaders. I took my gear to the empty pistol range.
