Is it $117 ($75 + $42) per permit, per gun (3 guns = $351) ?  Or does the $117 allow the purchase of multiple handguns?

Also, after the fingerprinting has been completed and the application is submitted, what is the typical turnaround time?  I know the application states 90 days...is this accurate?  So 3 months wait to purchase a handgun?

I'm asking for my girlfriend (MD) resident.  Since I'm a NC resident (stationed here), I have no idea how this crazy ass republic of MD works.

I never got fingerprinted. Just watched a 10-15 min movie and Filled out a questionaire, that your not a felon. Once you watch it, you can
buy other Handguns without watching it over again.

You have to wait 7-10 business days, and you can only buy one gun ia a 30 day period.

I think the app fee is like $15, if I remember correctly.

If your talking about a permit to carry..............good luck

Unlike NC, a permit to purchase a handgun is not required. You only need to watch a 15 minute video or attend a firearms safety training class to qualify (offerred free of charge by most jurisdictions). Most gun shops will let you watch the video for free if purchasing a handgun. After completion you are given a card. The number on this card is recorded on the state paperwork when a handgun is purchased.
Obviously you must be able to meet both the federal and state requirements (i.e. not a felon, not mentally ill, not under a court order for spousal abuse, etc.).  There is an 8 day wait period from the time you purchase until you can pick up the fierarm. This only applies to handguns and regulated firearms like AR15's and AK47's.

The $117 fee is for a permit to carry a concealed weapon. This is almost impossible to obtain for a normal citizen in Maryland.

Ahhhhh....that makes more sense.  When I read the through the online application I was in shock at all of the non-sense that was involved.  She just wants to buy a handgun...not apply for a Concealed carry.

Ok, so other than the waiting period, it's a relatively painless ordeal.

Well that brings up my next question....How do MD'rs purchase handguns at those rare and almost mythical things called "MD Gunshows"?  Obviously you can't come back to the gun show 8 days later.  Do you just do the deal at the show, and then have the dealer ship the gun to your FFL 8 days later?  That's kind of a PITA (if that's the case).

BTW...anyone ever go to the Silverado Gunshow in Upper Marlboro?  Is it worth attending?

Also....why are Concealed Carries so rare in MD?  How are they denied?  (ie. On what grounds?)  I would think that if you pass the background check...then what reasons do they deny them?

I think you're getting the two confused. The permit to carry is what you are talking about. That is just a permit to carry a handgun and has nothing to do with buying a handgun.

Just to buy a handgun is a ten dollar fee, a basic application at the gun shop, and a 7-day wait. Anybody who can legally own a handgun can do that, no problem.

A permit to carry however, is as someone else said, virtually impossible for the normal decent person in this state to get.

Yes, if its a MD dealer most people do the paperwork and watch the safety video at the show, then they usually pick the gun up at the dealership itself after the wait. MD gunshows pretty much suck and some of the dealers even raise their prices for a show, so you'd probably have just as much luck going to a decent storefront. Sounds like you might be in the DC metro area, if so I would recommend The Gun Rack in Burtonsville. One of the very few storefront dealers I like. If you plan on buying anything for yourself, take your stationing orders with you if you don't have a MD license so you can show residency. By federal law you are considered a resident of the state where your permanent duty station is as far as firearms purchases are concerned (unless you commute but that'd be hard sell from NC )

If you want to attend a decent gunshow best to wait for the ones in Southern PA (York or Harrisburg) or the ones in Northern Virginia.

They deny almost all CCW applications unless the person can show a 'need' for one. For instance has a business where they carry a lot of cash (i.e. if you're wealthy, the rules are different, there's a shocker), or has a documented reason to fear some kind of deadly harm (example; a defense attorney whose been threatened). If you're the average Joe or Jane Citizen who just wants the right to defend yourself and family in one of the most violent states in the country, you're out of luck. The liberals who run this state from their multi-million dollar mansions in gated communities know what's best for us peasant folk.

Hey Zoo,

I thought we were SERFS, not Peasants......or did ya mean Pheasants?lol

About concealed carry,

Even if you have all of the documentation thats necessary and then some that still is no guarantee that you will get a CCW permit! Politicians and attorneys get them like gift cards while we get NOTHING!

A friend of mine is a 20 year vet of the Baltimore City PD(ret. detective). Without fail, everytime he has renewed his permit he gets a run-around complete with feet dragging!

Maryland won't even recognize out of state permits!
