Hello everyone. I just joined your site today. I posted a similar "hello" thread in the general forum, but wanted to say hi to this hometown area as well. I'm David. I'm interested in either buying a ready-to-go AR-15 or building my own. I'm a total newbie to rifles, but not to guns in general. I hope to gain much knowledge from visiting the pages here, and reading your information section. I've already learned some basics from your AR-15 parts lists. I'm happy to be here, and hope to be the proud owner of an AR-15 someday soon. Thanks for an awesome site. |

yep, I have been lurking.. I've been interested in an AK build for a while, but I had to sell off some other toys to fund it. Now the only thing I'm waiting for is somebody to start shipping a good 100% reciever. who is the $10 FFL? I have been working w/ Carl Pace (his FFL is at Global) and he is a great guy.. I also PMd BBQman but I haven't seen any type of response. EDIT: I just looked and BBQman did update the post - Carl is there now. Thanks BBQman! |

War Relics? I've heard of that place. It's quite interesting from what I remember hearing. I met Carl Pace a few months ago. He checked out my old pocket pistols to see if he could identify them. We ended up talking about all sorts of things, for 3 hours one evening. He's a terrific guy, nice, knowledgeable, and a great shot! I saw his target on the back of his office door. Ouch. I'll look into the $10 place for when i start ordering the parts for the AR build. Thanks for the welcomes everyone, and the tips. Hope to meet up w/ the DE clan someday! Edited to add: My fiancee and I are planning a trip to Ommelanden this weekend sometime. If anyone is interested in getting together, please let me know. We can figure out the logistics. |

Thanks K for bringing your AR-15 to the range yesterday!!! We had a great time! It's a nice, lightweight rifle. All evil and black. hooting Thanks again! It was nice meeting you and chatting/shooting w/ you. We'll have to visit Elk Neck next time. |

Anytime. You know that people are able to shoot very long distances with the iron sites. We were only at 25 meters. All we needed was a spotting scope to see if you were hitting the target. What are you concerns with .223? A .308 would be an AR 10. .223 is very economical to shoot. But if you really want cheap, get an AK. |

I guess I was just under the assumption that the .223 round was more "powerful" coming from the evil black rifle. I was surprised that it's only a 60 grain weight. I pictured something that long (45mm) having more "oomph" I guess. But, I have done my research (both online sites and my local gun store) and find that the .223 is definitely good enough for what I want to do with it. So, all is good w/ me and my thoughts of the AR-15 again. he I saw a bunch of different configurations at my gun shop last night. They even had the RRA entry tactical there for me to "fondle." It was pretty nice (it better be for $999). I'm still leaning toward building one myself. There's something about actually putting the thing together myself that is driving me. I'll keep doing my research and planning. All I need is some $$$ to start ordering parts. Thanks again for your help! I'll be starting a new thread soon, after I get my research and planning together. |
