even though it does not give the protection of an oil.  Graffite works real good.  but depending on who you use it, it will leave a mess.

I use Breakfree CLP and Militec-1 on my rifles, and astroglide on my "gun".  Unlike a certain member who seems does the opposite.

I think in our area any lube will work, and rust protection, unless you carry it everyday, isn't too big of an issue.  Further south with the humidity and salt water probably would need something with more emphasis on rust prevention than lubrication.

I  was told by someone who is more "in the know" ( I think he was someone studying weather in college) that MD/VA area has more humidity than anywhere else in the mid-atlantic area.

Just FYI.

Washington DC used to be a hazardous duty station for British embassy employees, due to the crappy weather and misquetos.

For both.  Works great on guns and 1 quart will last a really long time.  It seems to "stick" better to the metal.  It also works good in cars.
Mobil 1 15w-50 is what I put in our cars.  I take care of other family cars and use 10w-30 for newer cars.  Either way, I replaced a valve cover on my BMW, which had about 105,000 miles, been on Mobil 1 since about 30,000 and the engine looked new.  Seriously, it really looked new unde the valve cover.  No brown crap, just nice shiny metal.  I have a pic somewhere.  I'll post when I find it.
Not to get too far off topic, but if Mobil 1 can take care of a high performance engine for 9 years, it can handle a weapon.

Here's the photo. 105,000 miles on it.

If it can keep this engine clean like that, I'm not going to worry about a handgun or rifle.
