Hi all,
Will be working in Minneapolis and switching to a new school (Century College.) I'm making about $33k a year and looking for a decent place to live. Hopefully some of you can make some good recommendations! Thank you! |
|
Where is Century College located at again? I'm assuming you'll want something relatively centrally located between work and school?
You'll probably end up looking in an inner-ring suburb or within Mpls. proper, in case it's all a horse a piece and you should just try to find something in your price range in a decent neighborhood. If you don't know your price range, then decide one before you even start looking. |
|
Century College is in White Bear Lake.
Might I suggest the Montreal Courts apartments in Little Canada? It's not far and the area is decent. But get ready for them to increase your rent every year when you come to renew your lease...and their openness to negotiation on that point is hit and miss. I lived there from 2004 to 2009 |

| Some other cities to look at besides Little Canada are Roseville, the east side of NE Minneapolis, the west side of North St. Paul, the NW/Como are of St. Paul, Arden Hills, Shoreview, New Brighton, Falcon Heights is ok, most of the areas in between will be fine too. |

I looked at the possibility of going the manufactured home route within a decent community. I checked out Beaver Lake Estates and that place was nice!
Bad part is a newer place for $59,900 plus $450 lot rent put's me at that $1,000 a month range. http://www.beaverlakeestates.org/2409_Elkhart_Lane-_Flyer.pdf 10% down and I only have about $9k in the bank. |

Jesus, you need to give me a call! That's insane. Buy a townhome as was suggested and you can always rent it out down the road if you like. A LOT cheaper than what you describe here... |

Nevermind, I'll ask him myself. Hey mcnielson, I'm interested, what can you do for ZByam? Thanks. |

I finance homes. Any homes. Not mobile homes, though. Just offering up my experience in the past year. Now more than ever you can buy a home for under $100k and it would be 2/3 to 3/4 of your rent with very little down. $0 down if you are a Veteran! ETA: sleevefullofaces: Thanks bro! |

Still doing a lot of searching. Looked at a few non section 8 apartments, and those run $750 plus.
I've been in touch with Mike and balancing work situations (People getting let go like mad) So I sort of put a hold on it for a few more weeks. Looking at the townhome route as of now. |
