i plan to be there bright and early saturday morning. but... i f'king hate the parking meters... Take 7th st. SW one block from the corner of Kellogg/7th and after that intersection Chestnut/7th the parking meters are gone. Chestnut is the border of Downtown vs. the rest of Saint Paul. Anything past that intersection is not "downtown" and thus has no meters. As a side note, you are really close to my work (Tom Reid's Hockey City Pub) which is one block further (2.5 blocks from the gun show). Tons of parking over there. I think a group of us arfcom dorks might be headed to the show on Sunday. Beers after the show are a tradition. |

I have been here all my 54 years . older but wiser. I've been tracking this one since yesterday morning. The local media does like to sensationalize weather but it looks like this one might be the real deal. If it's actually going to be that cold I don't see a good reason to leave the house between Friday night and Monday morning. |

well i went. i took the F350 instead of the car thankfully. i had a full load of oak firewood in the box which helped for traction.
it was interesting getting in the parking ramp, F350 Crew cab / long box 4x4, the radio attenna scraped on all the concrete ceiling beams. the gun show itself was pretty empty... seems like 95% of the dealers made it- and only about 12% of the customers. it was nice to walk down the isles without being bumped into, looking over everyones shoulders, smelling the crowd and hearing the great stories. i didnt see a single vet bringback K98 mauser... all were russian captures. i fondled a "original" Russian sniper- Mosin Nagant 91/30 sniper rifle. i dont know enough about the mounts and scopes to tell if its original or not, but the cut out in the stock was definitely well aged. but the barrel was counter bored so i didnt get too excited about it. picked up some more ammo boxes, but nothing else struck me as too good to pass up. |

Barely made it to the motel in downtown Minneapolis from Duluth. MN DOT must be on strike. Only saw one plowtruck the whole way down from Duluth to the I-35 split & he wasn't even plowing. Only one bare lane the whole way south.Things got worse past the I-35 split. In 4WD most of the time past that & took my time avoiding the nimwits going off the road. Saw a DOT plowtruck stuck near the 35W/94 merge. I'm surprised that DOT wasn't out in force. Should get interesting once the winds kick up. Downtown is a mess.
Hope the show is OK but I'll miss it while I'm down here. |

I went today, and boy was it light. Walk through was the lightest I've ever seen for a MWCA show. Since the aisles were clear I didn't have to bump into anybody to get through. I did see some K98's with some heavily shellacked dark stocks. I also found three Nagant snipers; the one mentioned before with the counter bore, one homemade with a welded bent bolt and one other that didn't have any matching numbers.
I did pick up an AR stock for a build. Ed |

Ed Russian Capture K98s. great for just shooting if you find one with a good bore and do a little bit of stock bedding / fitting work. im looking for a 1939-1940 vet bringback that hasnt been butchered, but i havent seen one at a show that wasnt somewhat F'ed with in a LONG time. |
