Saw this while reading the news over lunch
http://citizennewspaper.com/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=2&ArticleID=16543&TM=58956.6 I grew up in Becker and if I remember correctly I went shooting at Del Ton about 15-16 years ago, which would predate when these people moved into their house. Does anyone know how old the Del Ton range is? |

When they report on a safety issue; I've got to problem. In fact, I share thier concern.
When they attempt to insight emotion to combat reason; I get irritated. When they complain they cannot be safe untill the range is completly enclosed.... Well, I reply with something like this: I understand the concern that the Nessers have, and certainly feel a great deal of sympathy for the injury inflicted upon Louise. I thank God that she's OK.
However, the range has agreed to make an effort to remedy the situation. An expert from the NRA has made recommendations for the improvement of the range's safety. And the range has agreed to do so. I see no further reason for their concern. I'm confident that the expert has done an analysis based on the physics of projectiles and has determined this to be safe. What more could they really ask for? A fully enclosed building? That is a completely ridiculous request! It would also prove to be more hazardous overall, as well. If they are so afraid, where they live; why would the become reclusive? I sure as heck wouldn't want to go anywhere near there, let alone remain there perpetually. Further, if they'd been experiencing problems since 2006; why is it that they put up with it for 4 years? I also wonder about that 4 year gap between 2002 and 2006. While it does seem as though the range was in operation before that, under different ownership, I can only from the information presented to me use the 2002 date. Why is it that before 2006 there seems to be no issue with errant projectiles? Why is it that, people who visited them before, while bullets were hitting their house, no longer offer their support or their company at their home? Did they not tell them about the bullets that had been hitting their house? Or were they not that concerned about the safety of their friends and loved ones? Tell me also, what exactly is a 'bullet item' as defined by the above map? From that description it could be implied as to represent anything from an actual projectile, to an empty casing. If that's so, I feel that this report may be heavily slanted. Forgive me if I don't trust the news outlets. It's hard to trust them when you've seen this sort of thing before. Some people have nothing better to do than to destroy our American way of life. Simply because the sounds of gun-fire at the local range they just moved next to interrupt their favorite reality show or they have some unfounded fear of firearms. I've read it in newspapers. I've read it in magazines. I've watched the evening news, when someone goes on there ranting and raving about how "these bullets came through their living room window. Their supposed bullets that they show, being unfired cartridges. Forgive me if I seem cold and uncaring, and please read this for what it is. I mean no disrespect nor do I intend any offense. Do bullets leave ranges? Yes! Do cars leave roads? Yes! Tell me, which kills more people in this country: Errant bullets or cars? Should we fully enclose all lanes on every road in this country? Or should we do what we can to improve the safety of the roads, while also improve the safety education of drivers? We need gun ranges! Why? Because it's part of America's culture! It's our way of life. And a gun range is a lot safer than simply stepping out, into the 'back 40' and firing off hundreds of rounds at whatever they feel like. Del Ton is working to improve the safety of their range. Their measures have been recommended by someone who knows what their doing. They've been reviewed and accepted by the local authorities. Nobody wants an incident like this to happen again. Not the residents. Not Del Ton, nor their members! Let it lay at that! Stop allowing emotion to suppress reason, and accept the rational solution that has already been implemented. Sincerely, Alexander Thompson Concerned Citizen [I am in no way affiliated with the range, its representatives, nor any of the parties involved.] Though, I do question whether they'll actually publish it. |
