I don't know if anybody here reads it, but have you noticed them really turning up their game a notch when it comes to journalistic integrity?  They've had a number of fantastic feature articles recently that made me rethink the reputation they had in my mind from years ago.

Last week, they blew away (pun intended) the hysteria over the "gunshow loophole" and this week, they're challenging drunken driving laws.  It's like they're calling out the statists all of a sudden.

I guess I am still stuck on the rep they had a few years ago. That and the bastards call me every other week trying to sell me advertising.... I'll have to grab a copy of the rag and try to reopinionate myself.

I remember reading something with a fairly conservative (or at least DISTINCTLY non-liberal/statist) bent a few weeks ago, and being very surprised to see it was from City Pages.

I know some people there.

You'd be surprised to find out that there are liberal pro gun people...very odd, I know.

The surprise is that liberal and pro-gun often do not go together.

I advertise with them.  They really have the "frequent bar patron" demographic down pat.  I can't say I have read a whole artical of theirs in a decade.  I should give it a shot.  The news stand price is reasonable enough!  (Free, to those who don't know.)

Plus a great place for "men seeking men......"  uh...nevermind...

I almost never read it, but I did pick up this issue based on the cover. I was pleasantly surprised at the article.

Me too, I'd like to see if the author went any further with his pursuit, and got a permit to purchase, or is still try to get someone to sell him without a permit.

I resent that!

But, I did expect the "Gun show loophole" article to be horrible, and it painted everything fairly correct.

Savage Love is hilarious, and I look for listings of concerts and events that I'd like to go to but don't bother to.

I only read it for the tranny ads in the back.  (no pun intended.)

I too was pleasantly surprised by the article.  As my wife perused it I dismissed it and said take anything in that article with a grain (or block) of salt.  But after reading it I must fess up that I was wrong.

On the other hand, the Star Trib series on the ex-bullfighting gun runner has pinged my blood pressure a few times this week.  Anyone good at writing letters to the editor care to point out the whole total seized weapons vs. traced weapons disparity?

LOL. My Wife just came over and asked me what I was giggling at. Hee hee hee.

For the OP, I was suprised what a fair article it was, down to the blue trainer gun used for the picture in the article.

I write into newspapers all the time, but the ST hasn't published anything I've sent them in quite awhile.

The Star Trib publishes news at about a 6th grade all-must-be-fair touchy feely level.  They can afford to do so because even with all the people dropping subscriptions they still have a core reader base that expects the written equivalent of liberal elevator music.

Contrast that with the City Pages, which has to really "sing for its supper" in order to keep people reading.  They need to be interesting, combined with the fact that they're not staffed with "journalists" who've been in the business for decades and have become soft, so you get some interesting articles.  Another way of putting it is the best investigative journalism is often done by the rookies before they've had a chance to get fat and complacent in thier distinguished "real" jobs.
