went snowmobiling today and 15 feet off the trail someone put a dead Coyote in a little tree. question is, is that something i should report to the DNR i didn't get off and look at it but i could see there was little blood from the right eye.

I think I heard their pelts have been up recently, with some places taking whole carcasses.  Coulda been hearsay though.

...Sorry thinking out loud...

Maybe the "Wanton Waste" would come into play. But it applies to protected animals.
Only thing I see is you can't abandon carcesses on public land.
I would say it's reportable, but it might not go further than that.

I'd shoot him again. Make sure he's dead.

and again just for good measure....

eta: how come you never see them when you actually want to????  I see them all the time while hiking, but never when I'm on the stand and actually have a rifle in my hands

Coyote are vermin. Shoot them when you can.

Go ahead and report it to the DNR. I have a feeling they are going to snicker at you......

Coyote pelts are worth little to nothing right now. It isn't worth the work to skin them out. I chuck them on a rock pile. They are classified as an unprotected mammal so there's not much the DNR can do.

Do they taste good?

Are you feeling the urge to hug both?

Someone in the hunting forum cut thebackstraps out of a coyote and cooked them up and posted pics a while back

Shot a fox once, and my hunting camp wanted us to cook it.

I wouldn't waste the DNR's time, if it was a deer or something then I would report it.

Depends on the district.  DNR caught an Amish family with 10+poached deer hanging in their barn and they got a warning out of it.

The DNR will want to know in case there was a previous report of farm animals attacked.

Other than that, they will likely just let it rot.

Call and ask, anyhow, They don't mind it when folks call to let them know.
