We had dumb asses out on our lake on Saturday with snowmobiles, ATVs, and big fish houses already.  Lake had only been completely frozen over for 5 days.

Around 6 inches on Minnewaska last Saturday.  Lots of permanent houses and 4 wheelers/snowmobiles on the ice.  I didn't find any fish though.

I have seen some houses on the Minneapolis lakes, but there are also patches of open water, too.

Talked to the DNR and they said most lakes north of the metro are pretty safe at this point. 7" (or thicker) is what many of them have confirmed from both anglers and sheriff dept.

Expect it to be 10-12" thick on most lakes here before Xmas, as we are going to be sitting in a cold spell for a while.

Good news? Fish are biting on most of the lakes I frequent.

Mille Lacs has 16" near shore and 11" further out.  Someone with a lot more balls, or a lot less brains than me was out there pulling his fishhouse with a truck.  No thanks.

Was on LOW out of Wheelers Point on Saturday. The main lake about 1 mile north of Pine Island had 14" of good clear ice. I am told 4-Mile Bay had 3-4 inches less but I cannot confirm it. Vehicles up to Ranger/S10/Tacoma size were out on the ice. Fishing was decent, 8 keepers for two people.
