I've been all looking forward to the big gun show this weekend, thinking about gun stuff, yada yada yada... and pulled out my wallet to check my CCW permit and see when it expired.

THE FREAKING THING WAS BROKEN IN HALF!

So I know I have to go down to the sheriff and get a replacement (I'm in Ramsey Co.), but is there anything I can do between now and the weekend?  Will both halves of a broken permit still work for purchasing handguns or EBRs?  Can they issue me some sort of temp purchase permit?

Anyone had anything like this happen?  I'm extremely irritated.

As long as it is legible I'd take it! Got Scotch Tape? Fix it up....

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'd imagine most FFL's would accept your permit as long as you have ID that matches it (including address and DL#) and explain to them what the situation is.

From the BCA (link):

21. What do I do if my permit card is lost or destroyed?
The permit holder must notify the issuing sheriff’s office within 30 days of having lost or destroyed the permit card. Failure to do so is a petty misdemeanor. The permit holder may obtain a replacement permit card by paying $10.00 to the sheriff.

The Law (link):

Subd. 7a.Change of address; loss or destruction of permit.(a) Within 30 days after changing permanent address, or within 30 days of having lost or destroyed the permit card, the permit holder must notify the issuing sheriff of the change, loss, or destruction. Failure to provide notification as required by this subdivision is a petty misdemeanor. The fine for a first offense must not exceed $25. Notwithstanding section 609.531, a firearm carried in violation of this paragraph is not subject to forfeiture.

(b) After notice is given under paragraph (a), a permit holder may obtain a replacement permit card by paying $10 to the sheriff. The request for a replacement permit card must be made on an official, standardized application adopted for this purpose under section 624.7151, and, except in the case of an address change, must include a notarized statement that the permit card has been lost or destroyed.

I don't have a link to that 'standardized application' but hopefully someone here should be able to link it.

Below is also from 624.714, it states that a voided Permit To Carry will be confiscated (not cut in half) by the Sheriff. If that helps you feel better.
Subd. 8. Permit to carry voided.(a) The permit to carry is void at the time that the holder becomes prohibited by law from possessing a firearm, in which event the holder must return the permit card to the issuing sheriff within five business days after the holder knows or should know that the holder is a prohibited person. If the sheriff has knowledge that a permit is void under this paragraph, the sheriff must give notice to the permit holder in writing in the same manner as a denial. Failure of the holder to return the permit within the five days is a gross misdemeanor unless the court finds that the circumstances or the physical or mental condition of the permit holder prevented the holder from complying with the return requirement.

It's -2 this morning.  These things happen.  You can blame it on the cold.

On the plus side, now you can carry 2 concealed pistols since you have 2 cards!

And everyone laughed when I bought two Colt Official Polices!  Ha!  Now I just need to find crossdraw shoulder holsters, an ammo belt, and a sombrero.  Maybe I can hit West St. Paul after the gun show...

Thanks!  I normally wouldn't worry about it, but my dad's getting a stripped lower for a Christmas present so I'm kind of on a time crunch.

I had to update my address and they printed me a new card on the spot. I would think that replacing a damaged one would not take any longer but who knows it is the gov. after all.

Obviously not Hennepin, Dakota, Ramsey or Washington.
