| I was wondering if anyone knew where i could find a used milling machine. Im looking for a Bridgeport size machine... Im not picky on the manufacture im just looking for a larger one. Iv looked at craigslist but i didnt find anything good. Im trying to keep the price under $2000. Iv been looking around ebay at them and quite a few are within that price range just in another state. Im looking in the metro area and up north by where my dad lives(its going in his shop so preferably closer to there) in the Park rapids, bemidji, detroit lakes area. Its not an immediate thing im just looking to see whats around. Thanks a lot |

ill have to check if three phase is an option then. Thanks If it's in your garage at your house, it's most likely 240v/120v single phase. You will probably need to be near a commercial area to get 3phase 208/120v or 480/277v. Your electrical panel will something about 1phase or 3phase. Phase may be abbreviated with a circle with a slash through it. If you don't know how to identify it....you will want to make sure that you have an electrician wire it for you. A commercial guy should have the equipment to make sure the rotation of phases is correct. |
| its my dads shop that he built just for a shop so he wired it for welders and machinery so i know it has 220 but i will have to check with him on 3 phase. Thanks for the info... i hadnt really thought much about power requirements yet, still need to save some money and find one first |

A friend of mine (in Missouri) got a quote from the power company of $10,000 to wire in 3 phase. He said he picked up a 30hp phase convertor for about $1000. |

Might want to see if there is a liquidation in the news paper. My dad picked up a lathe years ago that way.
I have had a chance to use the more "hobby" sized Grizzly stuff. Not "bad", but, didn't have enough time on it to say if it was as good a quality as what I would want to spend money on. |

I hadn't really thought about the paper....thanks! Iv used the small hobby size mill and lathe (7x12 lathe) quite a bit and im really not a fan of it... i think it would be more rigid if you used glue instead of bolts and allen screws |

If your near the Hopkins area, and you want to look at some. You can stop by.
Naab sales Pierce machinery productivity used they are all in the same building 11145 excelsior blvd. Hopkins 55343 Careful though- they are like used car salesman with a paint gun. "Yup this one came with yellow primer." You will need a phase converter. Yes they will run better on a rotary, but you can get by with a static, if your only running a B-port off of it. B-ports and most lathes don't care how they are phased. If the spindle turns backwards, when you flip the switch, then switch any two of the three power wires. A cnc or a lathe like a Hardinge does care how its phased. [Disclaimer] I am not an electrician, but I have wired four machine shops completely, and haven't burned anything down, Yet. [Disclaimer] I will be putting a nice phase converter on craigslist, this weekend. Original paint. |
| Im mostly going to be milling compensators and different gun parts so table travel isnt a problem but the mill i have is not very rigid so everything comes out with chatter marks and and its too small so basically anything would be a step up. Thanks for the link Eli |
