I was a freshman at NDSU when the 'flood of the century' hit.  I saw enough sandbags to last a lifetime.  It made the decision real easy when they offered me a job in the College of Pharmacy after I finished my residency.

That said, best of luck up there.

I just got back from sandbagging...  some jackhole on the radio said no one needed sandbagging in grand forks so everyone went to fargo. id throw the loser who said that in the river if i knew who he was. we have house after house trying to build a wall to protect themselves.

also first time i have actually seen disaster relief, salvation army came by and gave us warm hot dogs

So when will all the support from New Orleans come to help?

Where are the cash cards? Where's FEMA?

Tesla120 hit the nail on the head. People up here fix things themselves instead of whining to the govt.

How true.

its erratic, last year we didn't flood,  this year is probably going to be classified as a hundred years flood. the name has nothing to do with frequency it really means there is a 1% chance every year of a flood of this magnitude.  the 97 flood was a hundred years flood as well.

Grand Forks is feelin pretty safe it bothers me a lot. we lost our work ethic and next time we could have a 500 years flood...  only a 0.2% chance but hey it happened in Iowa last year. so its not unheard of...

Just got off the phone with my college buddy in MoreHead.  Said that F-M was asking for voluntary evacuations south of I94.  He's in the high part of town, but was packing to GTFO, and was looking to me for advice.  Even if the water won't reach you, the failure of sewer, water, and electrical will.

If you don't have it already, get your contingency plans laid now.

Yep, this as much of a SHTF and Bug-Out situation as it gets.  My folks packed up what they could and left this morning at 5:30 AM.  Lots of LE and NG troops (not militia) were controlling access points to area so not worried about looting.  They live in North Moorhead near the border.  During the last flood (37.5 feet) their house was GTG.  Their road is at 38 feet and the dike the spent all week building is at 41 feet.  Looks like the water will be well above that now.

Most of the town is shut down, they are asking that everyone that is not helping the flood fight to stay home. Schools are closed and many businesses have closed as well.

I live way south in West Fargo, and we have the Sheyenne Diversion to divert high water in the near by river.....that is full to the top. if that lets go....there will be thousands more in trouble that are currently safe....cross your fingers.

The last BIG flood we had here was in 97....that was supposed to be only every 500 years, this one is more water then any of us have EVER seen, and that is also being said by a number of old timesrs in their 60s and 70s.....so it is as bad as ever.

God bless everyone..............like I say, we are currently safe. It is becoming hard to help out here as well, due to the travel difficulties.

it was a hundred years flood not 500, and the whole statement is misleading and stupid. a hundred years flood means that there is a 1% chance of a flood that magnitude. thats 1% every year, so its quite possible for it to happen every year just improbable...

a 500 year flood has a 0.2% chance every year of occurring so small beans, but it did happen in Iowa last year so its not unheard of.

We don't need that here. We can take care of our own.

I have pictures of both FEMA trucks in fargo,  and an FBI mobile command unit in fargo.  As for hand outs,  The people of Fargo and Moorhead  will show how its done by helping eachother out rather than standing there with our hands out,  whining wheres the government.

It's basically an American LaFrance firetruck converted into a r/v or television live truck setup.  it is pretty neat,  i was curios as to why they had it hidden away where they did,  It was in a public area however,  but well hidden away.

eh, less attention. people will wonder what the FBI is doing there and then be curious to bother them. no one really sees them on a day to day basis anywhere unless you go near an office or secure federal building..

the closest office in in Minneapolis so they had to have had a reason to come up.  probably precautionary measure though.. should have knocked on their door.

I believe the FBI has an office in fargo also,  not positive on that,  but that was what i have heard.

On another note heres a few more pics.http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c83/goodnbuzzd/MCM.jpg?t=1238638275http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c83/goodnbuzzd/Blkhawk.jpg?t=1238638305http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c83/goodnbuzzd/th_LiveRigs.jpg  there are lots more pictures of live trucks and news helis.  Hell almost got run over by a CNN van in a parking lot while i was changing lenses (missed me by literally 6 inches!),  you swear the guy never heard of mirrors.
