Starts Friday around 7am. The opening ceremonies are worth seeing. Last year they had a Blackhawk helicopter fly in and it was realy cool. I hear more birds this year, and the shooters are really fun to watch. It goes all the way till sunday.

Anyone else here participating in it?

I will be competing with my son in the Tactical Optics division.  We will try to do Minnesota proud.

If you want to watch the opening ceremony, you should be there before 0700 hrs. because they will be blocking the road off for the chopper.

Most of the Ro's got at least 5 stages shot today in a little bit of rain.
Hopefully get to finish up tomorrow with no rain.haven
You may want to have a tighter shotgun choke, just in case.  I haven't decided if I am going with a modified choke for stage 1, or not.

We haven't shot the zombie stage, yet.  That's the one that has me worried most.  32 headshots staggered out to 50 yards with plenty of  chance to lose track of where you were.

That zombie stage is pretty bad-ass, wish I could shoot it.

I walked it and found three pretty good shooting positions to kill all those zombies dead!

Just back from the Tri-Gun, what an event!

Lots of fabulous shooters and a wonderful assortment of prizes from numerous vendors.

This was the first tri gun that I competed in shooting a borrowed Winchester SX2 (that I had 5 hours of practice) a stock Glock 17 (duty gun)  and my work carbine (Bushmaster Mforgery) with aimpoint. Placed 96 out of roughly 145 shooters in my category. (got a nice goody bag ful of cool kit)

Lots of fun and I hope to participate next year! Ill be sure to get lots of practice with the shotty.

Great match.  10 stages of fun that tested about every shooting skill you had, and some that you should have (but forgot to work on).

My favorite part was walking up to the prize table one place (28th) behind my son Tyler (27th).  I was happy to be two match points behind him because I don't think I will ever be able to stay that close to him again.  That young man can shoot.

The prize table was awesome.  Over $200,000.00 in prizes.  I was 28th place in my division and took home a certificate for a FN FNP-45 handgun and I know there was at least one other firearm on the table, as well as several $500.00 plus value scopes sitting there waiting to be picked up.

If you are in the market to purchase any shooting related items, please take the time to check the sponsors list for the DPMS Tri-gun Challenge and send your money their way.  These companies really support the shooting sports, and that in turn makes the political environment better for any pro-gun citizens.

Randy Luth, owner of DPMS, left a standing offer for any of the competitors that were not current NRA members.  He would pay their membership out of his own pocket, stressing the need for everyone that is Pro-gun to be a member because they are leading the fight for pro-gun citizens.

I think Randy Luth and DPMS are shining examples of what we need in our shooting industry.  There were lots of video cameras rolling during this shoot, including some of the TV shooting shows.  I am hoping the footage will put the "black rifle" in the proper perspective.

rm22723

I stand corrected - Randy is not the owner anymore - still the man in charge.  He is still the one responsible for getting something like this going.  One of the largest most highly contested 3-gun matches in the world, held right here in Minnesota.

As for the film crews - my point was that I hoped people see that the black rifle isn't just for the "Tactical" crowd, they do have a very valid sporting purpose as shown by well over 200 competitors at the Tri-gun Challenge.  This makes for some very good arguements when the Political or Anti-gun people try to show this rifle as a Military or Law Enforcement weapon only.

Now rm22723 my challenge for you is this.  What have you done to put shooters or shooting in general in a better light?  I invite you to "come on out" for the next Mini 3-gun that is hosted by the Del-Tone-Luth Gun Club.  The date is on their web site.  The more people are involved in the shooting sports, the better our chances of beating the Political Agenda put forth by the Anti-gunners.

It was definitely a fun filled weekend.  Although I wish I would have done better myself, it is my first year three-gunning, and my shotgun-fu is still a little weak.  Considering that 4 stages were shotgun only, and another stage had a shotgun component, it's understandable that I didn't do as well as I would have liked.  But, I got to shoot (by total random chance) with five of the best shooters in the country.  Both Roberts from R & R Racing were on my squad, as were Brian Butcher, Pat Kelley, and Carl Carbon.  I learned a ton of stuff just by watching them, and it's humbling to see just how fast they really are...

In addition to that, one of my new buddies that I met through three gunning at the mini-three guns at DPMS arranged for me to shoot on the team with Ergo Grips, which was just a blast.

These type of events are great for advancing the causes of all people that believe the second amendment is not about hunting.  I can't think of a single thing that happened this weekend that doesn't further our cause, whether you're a tactical training junkie that believes in personal protection, a competition shooter, an occasional plinker, or even just someone that enjoys hunting, but believes that our gun rights are important to who we are as a country.

For that, DPMS, their staff, all the sponsors, the pro-gun media, Del-Tone, Randy Luth, and the competitors deserve a giant tip of the cap.

It literally brought a tear to my eye when a 16 year old gal who had a hard time running the charging handle ran up to the bench and dinged steel at a 100 yards better than many of the guys in the match.  The younger people is who we have to support in this more than anyone else, because when we're 75 and not actively involved in this stuff anymore, they're the ones that will be fighting the good fight for us.  The Tri-Gun challenge is one vehicle for getting the youth involved in firearms, and it's more important than ever.

Payne - thanks again for feeding my addiction
And KeithU - someday I hope to pull the trigger as fast as you on shotgun (and hit something) that was fun to watch you guys shoot team yesterday.

In case some of you guys reading this are on the fence, and think this sounds like fun, come out to the mini-three-gun on the 21st of September.  Bring a pistol, an AR and a shotgun, or just come to watch, and find out how much fun you can have.  That will give you all winter to sort out your gear for the start of activities next spring.

Here's a little teaser for you guys:  Army team shooting the team shoot yesterday:

I have done more then most of some of the self serving types on this board!  I can assure you of that!

Let me review a few things for you!

I have been a Gun Club Secretary!
I have been a Gun Club Treasurer!
I have been the newsletter editor for a State Shooting Sports Assn!
I have been the webmaster of a State Shooting Sports Assn!

I spent hours helping juniors load ammo to shoot HP. I loaned equipment to jurniors to go to Camp Perry!  Tended food stands to help raise money for junior shootiers to attend matches!

So me thinks I have done more then most!

I could care less about shooting 3 gun matches!  I work nights! Next your job and mine is as thankless at time as it gets!  So you are barking up the wrong treee!

I just pointed out that Randy Luth sold out to a large conglomerate.....and that is fact!

Ignore rn22987325.  His entire goal is to stir up shit in every thread he touches.  Note how this thread started out positive, some of the best shooters in the state inviting others out to the best match the state hosts, put together in large part due to Randy Luth, but all rn03927523 has to contribute is negative comments.

Oh and I almost forgot, posts where every sentence ends in a ! in order to prove how swell of a guy he really is.

Sure wish ARFCOM had an ignore function.

BTW, congrats to KeithU and lilpayne (does DS hang around here?)  That was a REALLY impressive team run.  All three of you can be proud of coming in second!  I think it's safe to say you guys were the crowd favorite!

Although I could watch Carl load a shotgun all day.  That guy is a machine.

ETA:  Tip of the cap to all the ROs at the match.  That is the best run match I have ever been to, and it's a challenge to keep things running smoothly on that large of a scale.

For others interested.  The scores are posted at www.trigunchallenge.com.

Tell you what, that little 16 year old girl can run a rifle better than lots of grown men I know.  She also impressed me on our shotgun stage when the bolt handle on her shotgun flew off while shooting and she reached into her pocket and grabbed a new one!

I don't know how Carl loads that shotgun so fast.  I still think he rigged up a vacuum system in there somehow and it just sucks the shells into the gun.

Hi Guys/gals.  A friend and I were spectators at the Tri Gun Challenge on Sunday.  It was great.  Lots of nice people, nice facilites, well organized.  Next time I will have to go on Saturday.  We only got to see action in the team shoots on Sunday and there wasn't much there for vendors under the canopy.  It left a good impression with us.  So good that I ordered a FN SLP MKI a few days ago (same place you got yours Payne).  I plan to come to the mini 3 gun.  I've got lots of questions.  Glad I found this forum with all you locals.

boreclear,

Congrats on the new shotgun.  Make sure the 'red" gas piston is in, and shoot some heavier (3 1/4 dram, 1 1/4 oz) loads for the first hundred to help break it in.

Mine has been perfect with everything except Fiochi for some reason.  It really likes the Remington Nitro (Gold hulls) shells.
