| I need a good smith to put a sight on a 1911 in MN I repeat good smith. |
| what part of the state are you in. if you narrow it down, you may get some more responses. if you are SE, look at Gary Schoenmann (American Gunsmith) in Rochester, he does excellent work and is one heck of a nice guy, or it is tough to beat the work of Ahlman's in Morristown. Even if you don't have them do your work, it is a must stop for any gun guy in MN, just to check out his ranges and gunsmith shop. |

If you want it done right check out Ahlmans in Morristown. Mike is the guy I work with on stuff like this. They do a top notch job on eveything, plus you can check out all the stuff to look at. Tell him the crazy guy with the tanks in Waseca sent you. 507-685-4244 |

There is a "younger" (as in under 50) guy who works at the Gander Mountain in Maple Grove. He put a set of Millett adjustable sights on my Springfield 1911. The front sight is a stake-on and the rear was their standard "mil spec" dove tail. ZERO issues and has held through 500 rounds. That guy went to the gunsmithing school in colorado and has done some pretty good work. His dad was a gunsmith for many years. |
The last set if sights I had installed at Ahlman's fell off! That 22 LR was big on recoil too. ![]() ***I HAVE HAD GOOD WORK DONE BY AHLMANS*** in the past... I haven't gone back since the last job though. Too far to drive... For all my 1911 needs, I go nowhere but to Randy @ Territorial. I've never had any work done by Eric Strand yet. Plus I live ~5 miles from Randy @ Territorial, so I don't get down that way very often. It's not that there are SO FEW GUNSMITHS in Minnesota. It's that there's SO FEW **GOOD** ONES in Minnesota. As was stated by the O.P. - Too many 'Hacks' around. |
