Bridge.... |
| That's the bridge I cross when I go to my GF's house - was going to go there tonight too! hock.gif I hope this turns out to be a benign incident... |

To those with scanners E-TAC1 seems to be the hottest talkgroup currently. There is traffic on P-Tac 1 and 2 and on EMS. Hennepin County, HCMC, Lakes Region, Anoka County, UMPD, West Metro St. Patrol, DNR are all involved. It seems interoperability has not been the problem they thought it would be. |

Everyone where I work is safe and nobody I know (as of yet) has been directly affected by the bridge collapse. I was actually taking a rest when my work called to see if I was ok. (daughter's 5th B-Day, so I took PTO in the afternoon) I originally thought they were talking about 494 going east by the airport when they said a bridge fell into the river. (THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MIND NUMBING TRADGEDY!!!) Now, I am not a structural engineer, but, I will play one for a minute. The heat index was rather high, but, we have not had any days above 100 F this summer, so, road expansion due to high heat is not a factor, AFAIK. The bridge was being worked on recently, but, more about this will come out in the news here shortly. Best wishes to those who are touched by this. |
| I am home from the U for the summer, but my diggs are right near the bridge. It is amazing how you can take something for granted like a bridge just being there, or not falling out from under your feet. And I am positive those pictures on the tube absolutely do no justice to what has happened. I am used to taking that bridge almost anytime I leave campus, running across the 10th St bridge parallel to 35W and down underneath the bridge. From those views you really get a sense of how massive of a structure that bridge was, and I can only imagine the magnitude of the destruction at the scene. I was always in awe of the forces that kept that large concrete mass where it was with all those cars on it. Wow. My heart goes out to all those effected, I can't begin to understand what it would have felt like to be on that bridge. I hope that we don't learn of any new loss of life in the coming days, but I am afraid we may. Hope all ARFCOMERs are well, as well as your families and friends. |
Traffic this morning was TERRIBLE. I left for work at about 7:15(?) thinking I'd get into work early & miss part of rush hour. I got into work at 8:00 AM right on the nose!!! ![]() I got a million phone calls from friends/family asking if we were all right because they know we live near there & take that bridge almost all the time. I pray that those families with missing persons, or those injured/dead from this accident will be strong and get through this event. The water is DEEP in that part of the river, and filled with debris (often easily snagging fishing line), undertows from the nearby dam, etc. Any divers that go into that part of the river are gonna need balls of STEEL, a little bit of Insanity, and a TON of SKILL to make it in there with near ZERO visibility, and about a thousand potentialy lethal obstacles... Yikes... |

Checking in A-OK, all family accounted for and A-OK as well. The bridge collapse made my heart sink in horror and concern for the welfare of the affected. A co-worker of mine lives 1 block away on University and gave me her eyewitness account, truely an event that left her in dis-belief and congnitive dissonance (shock and awe). God speed to all. |
can we not use names here? |
