PRACTICAL HANDGUN EVENT  May 20, 2007

Defensive Edge is now offering Practical Handgun sessions! You do not have to be one of our Alumni to attend, as this is “OPEN TO ALL” who have a valid Minnesota permit to carry. This will allow people the opportunity to practice and hone their skills from concealment as all courses of fire will be done from concealment. If you are up to the challenge and are willing to have fun please come out and join us. These range days will be held in all weather conditions, so be prepared for sun, rain, wind, dirt, and bugs.

This is not a typical competition shoot. It is based on quality marksmanship, sound tactics, and follow through. Each shooter will be timed and scored based on Defensive Edge Practical Doctrine. On occasion it will be physical with some possible running, crawling, climbing, jumping etc. Shooters will be required to reload tactically, often, and must do so from behind cover or concealment when available. Tactical reloads must be done before leaving cover, and after the final target in a stage is engaged. Hostage and innocent bystander target hits will be penalized. All shooting and uses of cover and concealment must be tactically sound or it will be penalized. This is not based on competition, but is for those that have a very open mind to be challenged and learn with some great practice time, as well as have fun (no bad attitudes allowed--the Range Staff can disqualify and remove anyone from the facilities as necessary). The Range Staff’s word and decisions are final (no arguments, as arguments aren’t fun).

There will be two courses of fire that will be done separately. Targets will be steel, paper and cardboard. All courses of fire will test skills for accuracy and tactical & practical correctness. Shooters will be allowed to go through the courses once in each discipline and then may shoot through again in a different discipline. Disciplines are Semi-Automatic Pistol, and Revolver.

Location: Princeton, MN at our home based range. Maps and directions can be obtained off of our website.

When: May 6, May 20, June 2, June 17, July 14, July 28
7:00-AM Registration (All must be registered before the Safety & Rule Briefing)
8:00-AM Safety & Rule Briefing
8:20-AM Start

Equipment: NO RACE GUNS OR RACE EQUIPMENT ALLOWED!!! Decisions of the staff are final.

Semi-automatic or Revolver Handguns: Will be defensive carry type only of 9mm, .40S&W, .45acp, .45GAP, .357sig, .38spl, .357, .41mag, .44mag & .45mag. All must be iron sited with no compensators or porting unless it is standard factory. Only reliable, quality, and safe working and safe in design firearms will be allowed, our Staff have the decision to exclude any firearm that is deemed to be unsafe.

Holsters: Serious carry very-secure concealment holster only (no competition rigs). No small of the back holsters, shoulder rigs, fanny packs, cross-draw, belly bands, thunder-wear, or appendix carry will be allowed. Holsters need to securely hold the gun in with some type of internal retention or a proper thumb break, no finger break flaps allowed. Holsters must not collapse after the gun is removed from it, so it must retain the guns shape for proper re-holstering (ie, no nylon). A dropped handgun or one that falls out of a holster will be an automatic DQ. Concealment garments are required for all shooting events. Magazines and speed loaders must be carried in secure carriers and not pockets. As an exception, Law Enforcement & Military will be allowed to use their standard day to day carry rigs. All holster and ammunition carriers must be securely fastened to the shooters belt. Revolver speed-loaders, and speed strips will be the only exception and these may be carried in pockets.

Ammunition: Approximately 100rds per day of quality pistol ammunition. Each course of fire will range from 35-40rds, and there are two courses of fire. Extra ammunition beyond the recommended 100rds will depend on the shooter hitting their targets, so if you need more to finish please bring more.

All will be required to have eye & ear protection.

Costs: Register through our website
$35 for one discipline.
$55 for both disciplines.

Did you learn that from Fritz?

You said the "F" word on a gun board, now something major is going to happen.

Looking at weather.com it appears as though Fritz is going to be putzing around with some guns this weekend...

Construction season hit...  Got a LOT of work to do...  I had to come in to work at 6:15 AM today...

Looks like the dude in the 3rd series (about 20 secs) just covered the rest of the class behind the line. And Rambo at the end also covered the class/camera guy when he turned off the line to re-holster.

No barrel rolls in Defensive Edge's doctrine. Just immediate returned fire!

Funny, watching some of the other videos posted by Risks, Inc on YouTube, there are a group of people DOWNRANGE watching.

<Hando/Sam L J> that shit is for the movies!<Hando>

When I did my one for fun I hurt myself and realized how horrably in effective it would be right away! my .02 If  you keep watching vids from that area you see alot of really bad advice and shooting tec.

Now I am not saying things have to be done my way just be practical for the love of god!

I know of a FOUR YEAR OLD that could do a BETTER tactical somersault and Pop zombies faster than those guys with a NERF GUN...

Remind me to do a somersault in my next competition and see if I can roll in the dirt AND still hit the target faster than someone who follows the DefensiveEdge doctrine!  I bet I could do it!!!
.
.
.
...if only I could do a somersault!

Just wondering what a somersault does when engaging an enemy?    Is it just a faster way (than, say, duck walking) to move while behind low-cover?  If you do a somersault in open ground, sorry, but you're gonna get shot before you reach cover...

Glad to see everyone had a good time at the shoot!!!    Keep up the realistic training!

Hope to see you at the next one!

FWIW, Training was over by noon so everyone was able to get back to their day without too much of a time commitment.  Low round count, inexpensive fee and short time commitment.  What more can you ask for?
