Looks like February will go out as a "LION" as March will come in as a lion as well!

Went to Walmart Cost Cutters to get a hair cut, had a 20 minute wait, so I shopped around.
saw quite a few buying propane cylinders, batteries, lanterns, flashlights, ready to eat food, water, gas cans... Damn, Winter weather!

I just bought a large jar of JIFFY, coffee, creamer, and suger, and 3 cases of Hormel NUKE meals.

Nah, he probably just bought some 4x8 plywood and bungee cords to fashion a plow on the jeep after he washes it.  I washed my truck, sure as the sun rises in the east it will snow,

Nope...I went to 3 different places; they either had $1500 commercial parking lot blowers, or $100 electric blowers.

Nothing inbetween

So...right now, I'm just putting the Jeep in 4wd and gunning it out of the garage, hoping I punch a useable hole in the end of the driveway

Worst case I'll shovel out...I'm just really trying to avoid that as much as possible. I shoveled out a walk to the road, in front of my mailbox so the mail lady can actually get to it, and the walkway to my front door for the UPS guy (hey, ammo doesn't just APPEAR here, ya know? )...and my back is STILL killing me from it. Too many damn twinkies

well, the four wheeler started just fine today. after i chisled the shed door open. then i had to make 10 trips in 4WD back and fourth to make a path for my truck to get my dump trailer out of the back yard.

put it this way- if we get an assload of snow tonight, ill be sitting here making post count tomorrow and NOT making any money. if it doesnt snow too much, ill make $1400  minus what i pay out for help / expenses.

Haven't seen any posts yet, must mean you made it to work. I've got one transport scheduled for today and for what it's worth, I think I'll just reschedule till it's a little nicer out. No need to wreck the rig for one load.

its fucking sad when people have to "stock up" when they see a snowstorm coming.  In 1/2 a day the plows will have cleared the snow and you can get ANYWHERE.  It frightens me to think what would happen if a REAL emergency were declared- the sheep would be in full panic mode....

Well, according to the radio we're going to end up with 17-19" after all is said and done in the Mankato-ish area.

Several highlights:

-02-28-07 Icy power lines go down and power is out in my town from 2220 hrs. to around 2330 hrs.

-03-01-07 0030 hrs. Get called to assist deputies in a town 10 miles from here for a man-with-gun-call.  Roads glare ice.  All ends well finally at 0400 hrs.

-03-01-07 0515 hrs. Power goes out again in the whole town.  Out until 1800 hrs. this date.

-03-01-07 1900 hrs. Come on duty and call my Chief's cell needing to meet him to ask questions about something.  I ask where he wants to meet and he says, "Well, let's meet at the liquor store corner, they're some morons f&%$ing a snow bank with their car near there."  We meet near where the snow bank defiling is occurring, talk, and I go on my way.

-At 2000 hrs. I manage to get stuck in a new development in town.  City crew out plowing so I call the one in the F-350 and manage to get him stuck too trying to push me out.  Local comes by and we push the city truck out and then get the squad out.

-I head home for a little break around 2100 hrs. and have to shovel the end of my driveway out as the same F-350 just went by and plugged it up.  I get it cleaned out and then manage to get stuck backing in.  After several brain hemorrhages and swear words later, my wife and I manage to get the squad free.  Break for a half hour and then I get back out to "make the donuts."

I used to love working in storms but I'm coming around.  My Chief's comment though has kept me chuckling all evening so at least there's something positive out of all this.

Just remember, we're forecasted to have 50 degree weather next week so all this will be a bad memory and moisture for the farmers.

Do not get a head of your wishful thinking.  If the ground is frozen, which it is...if the snow turns to water.....the water will not go into the ground.  Can we say flooding?

Ain't that the truth. First couple of years after I bought my house I battled flooding in an area that the farmers here say had never held water in all the time they'd spent growing up here. Guess all the damn houses that get plop down has something to do with it..? First time it flooded I lost the basement as we had no sump pump. Never even knew what one was till I found that empty hole in the basement where it was supposed to be. Second year we knew the drain tile would fill with the high ground water, so we had the super duper sump pump in place and let it do it's thing. The yard was raised two feet the first year with fill and another three the second year, as well as a small holding pond of sorts (big hole where three feet of dirt used to be). Enjoy the snow, but I don't really mind if it sits on the ground for a while.

Even if I could get out of my driveway (doubtful as of now, I'd have to dig some of it out at the very least), there's no way I'm driving on Rt. 12 all the way from here into work...between the snow being blown on the road and just the wind itself, it's a stupid reason to die just waiting to happen. My rule of thumb is "when the trucks stop rolling, it's time to follow their lead"

Besides, I have a VPN to work for just such an occasion

so i had my 4wheeler out, plowing my driveway with it when i decide to go to the end of the street and clear the area in front of the mailboxes. we have one of those big fucking metal boxes where everyone has a key for their own slot.

so, if the snow blocks the mail mans jeep from the boxes, NOBODY gets their mail that day. being the nice guy i am, i push snow from in front of the box to the other side of the street, right where it borders someones yard and city property. i left it on the street before the curb so the city plow trucks can then push it onto the city property.

the asshat the owns the land next to is hangs out his door and yells "dont push that into my yard"

me "what?"
he says it again
me "im clearing the mailboxes so everyone gets their mail"
him "well thats a good deal"
me" theres already snow there" and i continued to do so.

what a fucking clown. i maybe pushed 2 wheel barrels worth of snow TO THE CURB in front of his house. i should have thrown an ice chunk through his window.

theres a 9 foot pile of snow across my front yard from where our neighboor with a skid-steer piles the snow from the court there. he does it every year. i dont complain, because i know it has to go somewhere.

i think at 2 am ill be pushing snow into the asshats driveway tonight
