I was wondering what Rochester was like as a place to live and be a happy gun nerd.  Any info would be appreciated:  I see that there's a Dale's gun shop, a Gander Mountain and Southern Minnesota Sportsmen's Club but what about indoor ranges?

Thanks, Don

There is a indoor range at minuteman gun range in mantorville (about a 25 minute drive) Not the best place IMHO!  Rochester is a OK town depending on what you are looking for?????   Iv'e been here for 15+ yrs and I find it just fine.

by brother-in-law lives in pine island (15min. N on 52) and he is looking into their sportamans/ gun club.  i haven't heard back from him about it though.

there is also the "Wild Goose" gunshop.  i haven't been in it in awhile, and rumor has it that it has gone down hill abit.

That is a understatment.  Unless your into fly fishing they seeem not care what you do. IMO
I have better luck at gander than that place!!   When you here about Pine Islands gun club let me know. Im looking at trying to find a local plinking hole for the weekends.

for plinking on the weekends i would take the drive up to Kellog/ Wabasha and use the free DNR range a couple miles off of 62.  it's only open on weekends.  i usually go there when visiting the in-laws.  they shoot my guns while i give the place a clean.

after shooting the Eagles Nest coffee shop in Wabasha makes a pretty good cup-o-joe, then across to Nelson for some fresh cheese curds.

when i find out about Pine Island i'll post the info.

the gun shop in Winona has always had a good selection, and decent prices.  they will usually deal a little also.  about a 1 1/2 years ago when the Q3131A was drying up they had a stack of it for $4.59.  told them i would take 20 boxes if they cut me a deal.  they knocked the price down to $4.25.

That is why Mpls/St.Paul is only 90 miles away.......Used to live in Rochester for many years.....Have lived in Cites for over 6.......Unless you are "married" to your place of employment......make the move.
Think of it this way....Rochester - small strip mall ---------Mpls/St.Paul, Mall of America.

monkey out......

LOL!  i was surprised myself.  it is Mainsteam Pawn.  it is on main street downtown.  the entrance is on the side street.  i think the "pawn shop" part is closed.  they have always been friendly to me, and seemed knowledgeable.

i go in there while my wife and mother-in-law hit all the clothes shops (new and second hand) that are within a block of it.

there is also a good coffee shop at the other end of the block to the north on the corner (river side of street).
