Save me a trip downtown...  I moved to Minneapolis a while back and need to renew my permit to purchase a handgun.  The 3rd precinct is real close, can I just stop in there for the paperwork or do I have to go to the main HQ in downtown?
Thanks for your help!

Might be worth a call to the main HQ prior to driving.

Just a thought, I would go for the permit to carry.  The political environment may change for the worse soon.  Get one while you can.

I can't speak specifically for Mpls and how they do things but you should be able to get the paperwork at any PD or SD.  You just have to make sure you submit it to the PD or SD that oversees your area.  If you're in the city then the PD if you live out in the county the SD.

We occasionally have folks from the county ask for the paperwork and we give it to them but remind them to submit it to the sheriff's department.

Good luck,
Scott

I'll maybe just stop by the 3rd precinct since it's so close to home and I'd rather not go into downtown unless I have to.  3rd precinct and home are off Lake and Minnehaha so yep, permit to carry is nexthingThanks again for your help!

Just make sure you get some training before you start to carry everyday.  The size of your gun is the least of your concerns.

And, FWIW, I've always gone downtown for my PTP before I got my CCW.

Good Luck!

I live about 2 blocks from the 5th Precinct and just went through this. In MPLS only, to renew your permit to purchase you will need to go downtown. Good luck finding parking for under $7!

And if you park in the Government Ramp it'll cost you $11 Minimum parking fee.

Yep, I went down there last tuesday and filled out the paperwork.  I was hoping to get it before the show in Stillwater this weekend in case I happen to find what I'm looking for,  but my permit hasn't come yet.  Don't flame me for asking but is "the gun show loophole" still alive.

the "loophole" is still there, IE:  in America it is legal to buy and sell private property to another private citizen.

But...buyer beware!
