Are there any recommended AR15 gunsmiths in the twin cities area? Thanks Bri |

+1 If it's something that I can't fix by armoring it myself... It goes to Randy. Just remember to bring good coffee or some Scotch for the man or he might be in a bit of a cranky mood. Also, be prepared for your 'visit' to last at least 3-5 times longer than you inially THINK it will! ![]() As far as ARs, 1911s, Glocks, and Bolt action firearms... I'll take them to Randy if I need any major work done. -inuhbad |
Barrel swap.... I've been to two gunsmiths that dont know jacksh*t. One @ Gander Mountain and the other one in Lakeville (wont name names...but its a "custom gun shop) that totally screwed up my old Bushmaster. Will never go back there again!!! Thanks I'll give randy a call Bri |

Yeah... That's something that CAN be easily done with the right tools (and the right knowledge from an armorer's course). I just did a barrel swap for a friend of mine last month. I didn't have all the right tools, but was able to borrow them. The guys on this board are a GREAT help to anyone who asks politely. I also HIGHLY suggest taking the AR-15 Armorer's Course from Defensive Edge. The skills you'll learn will be a GREAT help to you in the future if you were to ever need to repair your rifle in the field with spare parts, or to change out barrels, check headspacing, or even build a totally custom kickass rifle that was built ALL by yourself (none of the 'Pre-Assembled' Upper Assembly crap)... After taking that course you'll be able to completely strip down, clean & properly inspect, and reassemble EVERYTHING on almost ANY AR-15 variant. That was some of the BEST money I've ever spent on training! There is a review (written by myself) of the course HERE ALSO, there is an UPCOMING ARMORERs course in Minnesota at the End of October... LINK TO COURSE INFO HERE October 30 - November 1, 2006 WELL WORTH THE $$$$ Here's a link to an article from SWAT magazine regarding this very same course. 2004 SWAT MAGAZINE REVIEW |
Bri, I have everything you will need to complete a barrel swap. Drop me an email if you want to do it yourself (or learn how). |
The AR-15 Complete Assembly Guide by Walt Kuleck with Clint McKee is a pretty good start. Sully's class is well worth the money for anyone considering attending. |
Thanks |
And it still works perfectly! At least well enuff to spank you cupcake. ![]() I still want to know why you want to change the barrel? |
|
Don't worry about WHY he wants to change it, Paul... In all actuality it doesn't matter WHY any of us do what we do. It's like asking, "Why do you own an Assault Rifle?" Who cares WHY, I'm guessing the answer is "because he can" (or in this case becaus he feels like it). <REMOVED> |

The only reason I was asking was as conversation. It is like me storming in here and going "I need 30 midgets" just makeing for some non suppressor activity in HTF I will go back to not asking. I got spanked last year in 5gun. I was J/K around there is always someone better! |
I thought I heard my name spoken? Paul, I'll get you your 30 midgets and raise you 10. Mat, I thought this thread was about AR15 Armorers, not the International Lawn Scapers Society Meeting!

I guess I can understand your view point on the issue, Death451... It IS logical for someone to ask about changing barrels on an upper. Just as it IS logical for you to ask for 30 midgets on this board. I guess it all depends upon who's asking the question, and what you would think would be a reasonable request made by a given person based upon your knowledge of said person. ![]() That said, I'm a bit curious as well about the barrel. Is he putting on a new-fangled uber-accurate 24" bull barrel? Is it an ultra-light barrel? Is he building an M-4gery? Or just a frankengun beater rifle like mine? I'm pretty curious as well for conversational reasons. YES, MCN, It's about armorers... Not "Lawn Scapers"... LoL! -inuhbad (and what's with the midgets?) |
