I have seen directions on this site and the Maryland AR site talking about making a rifle case from a toolbox. Is that kind of case legal to use in Minnesota. It would make traveling much easier. It would also make for a much less tempting target for a thief. Three kids and a wife make going anywhere for the weekend an adventure, but I like to take my 'baby' when we go, and I need to keep her safe. Thanks eagle308us |

I had one once. They are legal in Minnesota, and are quite nice actually. I had made mine before I bought a good hard case for my AR. If you have a 20" barreled AR, you'll need a 30 inch tool box, and a 26 inch box for a 16" barrel upper. I'm going to search for more info for some good online directions... I think I used a craftsman tool box a long time ago. I think it's better to use the tool-box for a 16 inch barrel rifle rather than a 20 incher, because a 30 inch tool box isn't too easy to take with you everywhere... It gets heavy, and annoying after a while because it doesn't have a shoulder strap. This is the best way to do the tool-box setup IMHO: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=2&t=159129 If you want it to appear even more discreet, you could put a few screw drivers, and a small wrench set in the top tray, perhaps a small hammer so if opened, it still looks like a tool box at first glance (rather than putting ammo boxes in it). Also, you could cut a slit into the foam to put a 30rd magazine if you lay things out right... |
