Ladies & Gentlemen,
Last call for 2016, final class this coming Sunday Dec 11. http://shop.openrangesports.com/precision-long-range-shooting-class-12-11-16-sun-12pm-7pm/dp/14874 The million dollar questions: - Is anyone interested in attending? - If you would like to attend, what would you like to see covered in the class? This is normally an "Intro" type class for new shooters looking to get into some form of "Precision Long Range Shooting". - Long Range Shooting Applications - Local Shooting Opportunities - Precision Rifles - Optics - Ammunition - Supporting Equipment - Long Range Shooting Calculations - Shooting Fundamentals - Rifle Cleaning & Maintenance If that works for the majority, then we can continue with that content. If on the other hand, there are shooters who are looking to get into more advanced topics, then we could also offer that type of class. - Precison Ammuniton & Reloading - Andvanced Ballistic Calculations - Advanced Shooting Fundamentals / Positional & Competitive Positions - Lessons Learned from Matches My background includes (contact me if you would like more details): - 8 years active duty US Army, Life Member of the US Army Sniper Assoc, I have attended the International Sniper Competitions multiple times. - 22 years in Public Safety & Training, current member of the American Sniper Assoc, I have attended a number of LE Sniper Schools and Competitions. - Competitive Long Range Shooter to include NRA Highpower and F-Class, with a Master/High Master Classification. Numerous Tactical Matches, to include K&M, Rayners, and Thunder Valley. With that training and experience, I believe that I can cover pretty much any topic related to Precision Long Range Shooting. I would like to open this up for discussion among anyone who might be interested in attending the class. Please let me know what you think? Thanks, M Richardson |

Hey Capt! Been a while, we actually met at the last Rendevous in Milton TN. Wish I could say that I have been doing that type of shooting alot but it has been a while. I am interested - look forward to seeing what you come up with. Do you have a price range in mind? Have a buddy or two that will ask when I mention it.
Edit: sorry, just saw the link! |

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!
Good to hear from some old shooting cohorts, hope that all has been going well for everyone. Unfortunately I have not been able to make a lot of the old shooting spots like the Snipers Paradise Rendezvous. Over the last 2 years I have been focused on shooting the F-Class Nationals and doing everything that I can with the Precision Rifle Series (on top of work and everything that life throws at you when you least expect it). In response to some of the questions posted: Ranges - I typically teach these classes to give the shooters the ability to engage targets out to around 1,000 yards. One of the things that I cover in the class is the capabilities and limitations of the components (rifle, ammo, optics, supporting equipment, etc) that the shooters are using. Bottom Line, I will cover whatever the shooter needs to know so they can be successful in whatever shooting application they are interested in. Shooting Options: - Open Range has a 100 yard indoor rifle range. This is a great location to get a true no wind zero, and check scope mounting and tracking. We can also chronograph the shooters loads (I have a Labradar) and work up a good dope/ballistic chart. This is also great place to start, because if you can't consistently shoot sub MOA groups at 100 yards, then there is no point to trying to shoot accurately at long ranges. - There are a number of ranges that I have access to with the ability to shoot from 500-1,200 yards. Once I know that a shooter is actually ready to shoot at those distances, then we can setup a time to utilize one of those locations. I could take anyone out to one of those locations, and coach them to making hits on steel out to 1,000 yards, but it doesn't always mean that they will have the knowledge and ability to go out on their own the next time and produce the same results. I also usually find that new shooters actually have a fair amount to take care of and learn before they are actually ready for long range shooting. - There are a number of local matches, Tactical at Redbrush, F-Class at Borden, and Long Range at Camp Atterbury, where a shooter can accompany me to observe or shoot one of the matches. Cost - per the Open Range Website, it will be $75 (that covers the class at Open Range, there could be an additional charge for any other shooting/instructing options). Dates - I usually try to do at least 2-3 of these classes a year. Yes, I will definitely be doing another one in the Fall before deer hunting season. I am really open to doing whatever will help anyone out related to any form of Precision Long Range Shooting. If we end up with some beginner needs, and some advanced shooter needs, then I can actually run 2 different classes if warranted. Please keep the feedback coming, Thanks Again! M Richardson |

Just wanted to follow up on this to see if I could get some more feedback.
So far I have gotten some feedback going more in the direction of newer shooters, and some going more in the direction of experienced shooters. Needless to say, I would like to avoid mixing the two in a single class, as it would not really be the most effective for everyone. As I stated earlier, if there is enough interest, I can run the July 30 class to fit one group, and add a class to fit the other. That being the case, if you plan on attending the July 30 class can you please let me know what you prefer? Feel free to reply here or drop me an email (majmrichardson at gmail dot com) Also, for those who may be interested, The Red Brush Range will be holding a Tactical Rifle Match on Sunday July 31 http://redbrush.org/matches/match-descriptions/tactical-rifle-match/ I plan on attending that match, and I would be glad to coach, mentor, or help anyone who would like attend. Thanks again to everyone! M Richardson |
