| Does anyone know of any classes happening around Kentucky/ Indiana area anytime soon? |

Decisive Action is offering classes at Fort Knox pretty frequently.
http://dadefense.com/ai1ec_event/tactical-rilfe/?instance_id= I just PCS'd here at the beginning of the year and have never heard of Decisive Action until now, so I can't say if they're any good. Just remember that all weapons must be registered with the PMO before bringing them through the gate. |
| I have taken several classes with Joe from Superior. I enjoy the classes and find that he is a good teacher. He typically tailors the class to what the shooters need as opposed to coming in with an schedule and teaching techniques that may be too complicated for some shooters. He has a basic pistol and basic carbine class coming up in June at the BGSL and a two day carbine course at Knobb Creek. I will likely be at the Knobb Creek course. |

From the pictures on his site it looks like everything is within 25 yards or so. |

From the pictures on his sight it looks like everything is within 25 yards or so. The distance with carbine is from 3 yards to 70 yards, depending on the exercise and what the range is capable of. Realize though, he is aiming at a specialized target that has a target zone of approximately 5 to 6 inches, which is pasted on a standard USPSA target. Hits outside this area are frowned on for reasons he can talk more about. ( http://www.superiorfirearmsllc.com/for-sale.html )It is difficult for me to consistently do this and I've seen only a handful of others do it well. He really drills into your head that only good hits count and the smaller target is a result of that thinking. |

Interesting that Decisive Action is trying to run their training at Ft Knox?
KY State Rifle & Pistol stopped shooting their matches there because no one wanted to deal with registering their firearms or the hassle of getting onto post. I would be curious to see how many potential students will be willing to jump through those hoops? Sad DOD has those stupid policies because there are some really great range facilities at Ft Know that are going to be pretty much sitting empty not getting used. Also pretty sad when the KY State Championship Rifle Match has to be held in Southern IN because there is no place to shoot the match in the state of KY! Sorry for the sidetrack. For close range Carbine/Rifle training, both TG&G/Norse and Open Range Sports offer classes: http://www.tggky.com/training.html http://www.openrangesports.com/calendar.html?month=6&year=2014 There are also classes occasionally offered at Rock Castle Shooting Center via their in-house instructors or outside contractors like Invictus. https://sites.google.com/site/rockcastlelive/training Problem with any longer range training in this area is the range access, which is pretty much non-existent. Best of Luck, M Richardson |

Best of Luck, M Richardson Rockcastle I believe gets out to 800 or 1000, I cant remeber off hand but I did shoot some 600 yard flashers a few months ago. Knobcreek also goes out to 300. I think the problem is instructors proficient and willing to take a carbing out past 100 yards because it's not as cool as hosing 3 or 4 10 yard targets with crazy splits. Most people want a Magpul dynamic type class. It's not till you get into shooting for a reason that you realize thats not what really needs professional instruction. Anyone can get double As quickly up close just by drilling yourself. But when you go out to 300 or 500 is when some skill and guidance is needed. If I'm paying several hundred bucks and blowing through my limited ammo I need to actually learn something more than how to finger blast some close range paper cutouts. Ok rant over. I just dont see the use in teaching tons of hoser drills aside from familiarization and mout type stuff. I thing once you get to 2nd level and up classes you need to start moving out. Most places under the description for advanced is just a faster paced version of beginner. |
