I am looking at getting some land out in the country somewhere outside Jefferson County.
I have money but im not made of it. What, in your opinion, is the minimum amount of acerage for decent whitetail hunting and, what should such a parcel cost? |
| I think its going to come down to how it lays.I have 5 acres but cant shoot(except silenced of course) because there are houses ajacent to it.Also nothing for a backstop as its relatively flat.No trees either.Thats the problem with most small tracts of land, you will have a neighbor closeby and an unsafe location to shoot. The other possibility is if it would back up to a larger farm or some situation like that.I think this same theory would apply for deer hunting unless you just get lucky in the purchase?I would think 20 acres or more is going to set you apart from neighbors and roads enough to safely and comfortably shoot and hunt.A larger permissible landowner next to it would be a huge bonus.I really think that is a key point, then adjust your acreage from there.I havent kept up with land prices lately, but I would think a few thousand an acre is a reality. |

I know of a piece in Metcalfe County 20ish acres with a mobile home on it. Also has a creek running through it. Has Electric, but no water must haul it in. Does have septic. Mostly rolling hills. It is in the $25-$35K Range depending on how much land you want. That sounds interesting. Rolling hills are handy backstops. |
