| This past week, I was talking with Skip at Shooters Supply about long range shooting. He said there are several places with 1000yd ranges. I had no idea. I'm thinking I want to get into it. Is anyone here involved in this kind of shooting? |

That sucks  There is a club in Indiana close to Louisville that has a 500 yard range, member only though. And then have heard talk, and seen dicussion in the KY Range thread here that there might be a 1000 yard range available @ Fort Knox for civilians, but I have never verified that and haven't been able to find anyone that's ever been. |
| He named several but I wasn't real worried about committing them to memory. I do remember him saying there was one in southern Indiana and one at Fort Knox that they use for competitions. I served at Fort Knox and didn't know about it. Anyways, I'm going to talk with him more about it. |
Range on Knox is 1000 M or yds(?). Some club nearby has access to the range but I have no idea of who to contact or what the cost of membership is. From what I was told, they have weekend access and no 50 cals allowed. I have been there and the pits and target were in pretty good shape in 2004. I never pursued the issue because of all of the perceived hassel of going onto a military installation with evil blacks in the bed along with ammo and probably a pistol. And I don't want another Gov't. place knowing what I own or what the serial # is. By the way don't try to enter a installation packing. Your permit is worthless if you get caught. If someone is from that area and could rund down some of the details it would be nice. Scott Mountain is for use by the MCSC on a scheduled basis for competitions. The competitions are on weekends, but the club does not have open weekend access. The possibility of just walking on the range to practice is 0. Military units also use the range for training and the range is booked solid almost all year. Don't think about shooting a Garand match.....do. |
