Trump’s own administration certified Connecticut’s compliance with 8 U.S.C. § 1373 in 2017. Nothing has changed to alter that certification, other than Trump’s unhinged fixation on defunding and commandeering our police. We sued the last time Trump attempted to defund our law enforcement, and we are prepared to defend Connecticut funding and public safety. Attorney General William Tong Wait, what? Looks like protests already kicked off in New Haven over the arrest of a woman who had two pending charges, breach of peace and assault. Dozens gathered outside of New Haven courthouse to protest local woman’s ICE detainment More than 100 people gathered in front of the Robert N. Giaimo Federal Building in New Haven on Wednesday to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and it’s detainment of a New Haven mother. There were several protests, starting with Tuesday night and continuing to Wednesday afternoon and evening. Protesters said there are going to be more rallies, and more people gathering together trying to stop ICE. There was anger in the streets after a mother was taken into custody in front of her two children by ICE. Police say the woman did have two pending court cases, a breach of peace and assault at the time. “This 14-year-old girl watched her mother be physically handcuffed and dragged out of the car,” President of the National Immigration Law Center Kica Matos said. “They took her away and she has to figure out what to do, the engine is running. He eight-year-old brother is in the backseat.” The daughter spoke at the rally and talked about the effect it’s having on her family. News 8 is not naming the woman. “Calling her once a day is so hard, you don’t know how much pain you’re putting our family through,” the daughter said. “I hope you genuinely consider what you’re doing to my family.” New Haven protesters said they are angry at ICE raids across the country from New Haven, to Los Angeles, where President Trump had the Marines called in. “My dad is in Arlington (National Cemetery) and I think he’s rolling over in his grave at what’s being done by Donald Trump,” Frank Panzarella of New Haven said. There was one Trump supporter yelling back at the crowd. “They’re saying the wrong things they are saying they’re separating families, but they have no business crossing over illegally,” Maggie Mcgilton of New Haven said. “I wish they would make that wall and finish that wall because a lot of Americans are losing jobs because of illegals getting jobs, it’s not fair.” The crowd was emotional, but peaceful, and uncertain of the future in New Haven. “Right now, they don’t have the agents, but we expect ICE to do mass pick-ups in the state, and there’s a possibility of them activating the National Guard here,” Brian Timko of New Haven said. “So we need a strong stand of civilians who support their migrant neighbors.” Organizers said that as quickly as ICE can take people off the street and into custody, they can act equally as quickly to stage counter protest. “I am very hardened that at a moment notice so many people can come out and protest, what’s going on and show solidarity with what’s happening in other cities,” Paula Panzarella of New Haven said. |

| not to clear on facts but in the case NAGR v. Lamont, it appears that the second circuit might grant an injunction as to ar-15s etc, and the case, and "the tong" is asking them to ignore what SCOTUS and Justice Kagan just said about ar's, that they are in COMMON USE etc....keep fingers crossed. |

With as much media face time as Tong is getting lately, wonder if he's positioning himself for a run for Governor or a Congressional seat. His likely going to be big mad at SCOTUS today. AG Tong to hold press conference after Supreme Court issues final rulings The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hand down several important decisions. It’s the last day of the term, and we are expecting rulings on cases ranging from birthright citizenship to LGBTQ books. Connecticut’s Attorney General William Tong is holding a press conference about those rulings after the U.S. Supreme Court releases them Friday morning. One that affects many people is Kennedy v. Braidwood Management. It’s about a provision of the federal Affordable Care Act that guarantees access to preventive medical care. Things like cancer screenings. A lower court struck down federal enforcement of that, allowing insurance to charge co-payments or deductibles. Tong and 22 other attorneys general asked the Supreme Court to reverse that decision. There is Mahmoud v. Taylor, which is about whether schools have the right to have books with LGBTQ themes as part of their curricula. This case is out of Maryland, but could affect schools everywhere. The question is, should parents be allowed to opt out of having their children learn about LGBTQ people? Tong joined 18 other AGs in arguing that schools have the right to teach such themes. |
