The fucked up writing of the stupid AWB means your question gets a no and yes answer. Now for the confusing, wall-o-text answer.
Because of the way the stupid AWB was rewritten and enacted on both 4/4/13 and 6/18/13, a semiautomatic shotgun has to pass two sets of AWB feature bans. From the current law for post 9/13/94 manufactured shotguns (and those not banned by name). The semiautomatic shotgun must have a folding/telescoping stock AND "any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other stock, the use of which would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing". It must have BOTH features to be an AW under the post 4/4/13 law. The semiautomatic shotgun cannot have the ability to accept a detachable magazine. The semiautomatic shotgun cannot have a revolving cylinder. Now because the idiots (I'm being kind) in Hartford decided to reban rimfire AR's on 6/18/13 with the line; "(ix) Any semiautomatic firearm that meets the criteria set forth in subdivision (3) or (4) of subsection (a) of section 53-202a of the general statutes, revision of 1958, revised to January 1, 2013" they also reapplied the pre 4/4/13 AWB which includes a two evil feature ban on semiautomatic shotguns. This means a semiautomatic shotgun (post 9/13/94 manufacture) that has two or more of the following features is an AW; a folding/telescoping stock, a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, a fixed magazine capacity in excess of five rounds, ability to accept a detachable magazine. So what the fuck does this mean? Good question.
For example if the following shotgun was manufactured post 9/13/94 it is technically illegal because it has a pistol grip AND has a magazine tube in excess of 5 rounds. http://imgur.com/rwnjifP.jpg However, the following two shotguns would be legal because they have only one evil feature. http://imgur.com/y0uLjZS.jpg http://imgur.com/Wbl7LkF.jpg Fucking stupid, idiotic, and confusing as hell, but that's the way the idiotic "common sense gun law" is written.
Edit to add: Oh and just to make one do more . The first picture above (semiauto shotgun with the pistol grip and 7 shot tube extention) was perfectly legal to buy between 4/4/13 and 6/18/13.Quoted:
