I collected unemployment for 2 weeks after I got out of the Army. I felt like such a scumbag that I went out and got a job making less than I was on unemployment.
In hindsight that was kinda stupid. I should have abused it made some money on the side, since I was going to be on the paying for them side of the equation for the rest of my career shortly after that. It was kind of stupid. but hey, I can still say I was never a good for nothing welfare leech. And that feels pretty good. |

I'm currently working a 36 hour shift in support of/ helping the gimmedats/ pajama people. Dad gave his nine year old son some "sleeping pills" to " help him out" while at the no tell motel. You know the tax payers are paying for the temporary lodging. Dad is stoned, kid is stoned. Kid managed to call 911 after he fell and hurt his leg. Now it's a police and DCF matter. You think you've seen it all

There is a certain entertainment value working with the welfare class. Last week a 19 year old girl ate a suppository because she didn't understand the meaning of "for rectal use only". Of coarse she got her free ride (ambulance) to her private doctor ( ER) and you know who paid for it.

My dad worked for the WTBY housing authority and was on call every other week. Had to deal with dumb calls about people being locked out to broken light bulbs to be replaced in the apartment He also walked into apartments that had the heat on full blast in winter with all the windows open

Can we pin this thread and share stories?
I was a landlord for 1 year. 1 bedroom condo. Nice girl who was a "single" mom with one infant. Ok. Then the boyfriend unofficially moved in. She paid 350 state gave me 400 a month. She drove 6 year old accord with 800$ a month payments and her boyfriend drove and a me Audi S4.
After one year I sold that thing and was done with it. |
Started bycyling on the Cheshire to New Haven trail this month. On the trail hitting the New Haven line you ride through some projects and sketchy neighborhoods. The one thing I noticed is that the houses are falling down and delapidated but still they all had 2015 vehicles in the driveway

| ^That reminds me of when I lived in Waterbury for a while. I road a street bike, and met a lot of colorful characters. Most of them lived in section 8 housing with their ENTIRE families, and all had BMW's parked in front of the "apartments", and they would roll their bikes in and out of the apartments every morning/night. It was pretty bad/ridiculous. |

I used to be a superintendent of a welfare building. We had one directly off the boat from Puerto Rico family and the mother couldn't speak a syllable of English. The landlord loved those people because they qualified for Section 8 in a heartbeat which meant guaranteed rent from the government. These people had televisions, Nintendo systems, and better furniture than I did. The son started working at McDonalds on the sly which threatened their welfare status but I kept mum because there was at least one member of the family who showed a work ethic. Turns out the kid was just saving up enough for a leather jacket, and once he bought the jacket he quit.
Then there was another section 8 family from Pennsylvania who looked to be double dipping since they were collecting Connecticut welfare but still had Pennsylvania tags on their van. We anonymously sent a letter to the welfare people. A few weeks later we see the van suddenly had Connecticut plates. ...and the fucking cockroaches! We had to constantly stray the building for roached because these people were so used to roaches that they thought it was normal, and they brought the roaches with them as they moved from residence to residence. |
