Hi,
Do shooting ranges in CT rent firearms? I was recently asked some bachelor party ideas for a bachelor party taking place in CT...obviously shooting is on my suggestion list but I don't think anyone attending other than myself owns guns. |

Yes they do. That's what I did for my bachelor party. Are you a CT resident? Do you have a pistol permit? Where would this be taking place so I can suggest a rental range. Cool. I am not a CT resident, and I don't have a pistol permit. I don't believe any of the guys I am going with own any guns or have any pistol permits. I was thinking about bringing a bolt action rifle with me just because it is really loud with the muzzle brake and I feel like people will get a kick out of it... plus it looks like a "sniper rifle" to a lay person. |

Do you have a place to shoot? I have guns and will whore them out most people if they just buy ammo for them. Of course they'll have to pay you to buy the ammo if they don't have one of the valid permits to buy ammo within this state. Or they'd have to buy ammo outside of CT and bring it with them. |

No worries I can bring ammo So long as you are "giving" the ammo to people free of charge while within CT it shouldn't be a problem. However, keep in mind that under the stupid CT law one isn't supposed to, within this state, "sell" ammunition to someone who doesn't have one of the relevant permits or certificates to purchase ammunition. Someone could make the argument that charging money (to cover the cost of the ammo) for the bachelor party could possibly amount to selling said ammo. Chances of getting caught if charging such a fee to cover cost of ammo is essentially zero but something to keep in mind if one is trying to remain above board, so to speak, legally. |

The other people are interested in shooting and we re planning on going to Mohegan Sun sometime after shooting. Are there any decent ranges within an hour of Mohegan? |

Hey beach, Delta is the place that has a bunch of full auto and NFA to rent, but I don't know their permit policy. It may be laxer if you do something like book a party/group which would probably be monitored. Quoted:

As such they may or may not be aware that to buy ammo they now need a permit or certificate to do so within CT. Would suck for the OP to drive into CT expecting to buy ammo on the way to a range or even at the range to shoot your guns only to find out they cannot buy ammo here because they don't have the stupid permit or certificate. Now they know about our stupid ammo sales law and can plan accordingly if they so choose. |

This whole thread is moot.
Hes not a ct resident. No permits by any of them. even if he can rent a gun at a range how can he buy ammo to feed it. Best bet is to bring sardo ammo from wherever you have to get it from and shoot his guns. He only charges 40 per hour |

If he brought his own ammo that he purchased outside of CT he could shoot the rental gun (if the range allowed him to use his own ammo). If someone standing next to him who did have a permit/certificate purchased the ammo and then gave it to him he could shoot the rental gun. Lots of ways around the stupid law. Look at it this way. How can anyone who doesn't have one of the relevant permits/certificate to buy ammo take a basic pistol safety course and do live fire? |

One range that allows rentals by certain non-permit holders (people accompanied by permit holders, people who took NRA courses from their staff or affiliated instructors, and a couple of similar policies) has a policy of allowing them to pay for ammo they shoot (in box increments- use it or lose it, no taking it). |

Wonder how they rationalize it being legal seeing as the stupid ammo sales law doesn't appear to have an exemption (eta: if the ammo was knowingly sold to the non permit/certificate holder) for situations like that. <shrugs> |

So as long as I know what calibers we would shoot I can bring the ammo. I'll reach out to him via pm. |

Buy all the bachelor party guys a knife with their name engraved, get a case of beer and party in the garage and call it a day. Sounds like the shooting thing is a no go. If they wanted to shoot and it got that bad I would see if they would drive to ny to shoot at my father-in-laws range with my guns. |

Well this is retailing fast.
You want to play with guns let me know, I guess we have to keep everything private so the Internet lawyers ears don't burn. Most calibers 9mm, 5.56, 308, 22lr, 45, 5.45x39, 40mm M203 and more stuff I won't dare mention because heads may explode. IM me your number and I'll shoot you a text. Haha we'll shoot at Cobras house, go get dinner down the road and hit up the strip club, all with in a 5mun drive. |

Call Delta, tell them your idea. You may be able to pay extra for an instructor. If being taught you do not need a permit. I spoke with them...basically their policy, as told to me, is that you can't rent any firearms there unless you have a CT (or other state) pistol permit and even then you can only have 1 guest. So if you have say 6 people you need 3 permit holders. He did say that maybe they could make an exception if you had various NRA certs which I don't... if a NRA RSO cert was going on close to me in the next month I might have considered doing that. Seemed like a nice guy but we couldn't come to an accord. Their range their rules. |

I don't like the shop but Tactical Arms in Torrington has a few MGs they let a anyone shoot in their indoor range. It's $1 per round though. And only a Mac 10 and maybe full auto AR.
OP do you have property to shoot on? I'm sure you could get guys from here to show up and let you shoot what ever, just throw us cash for ammo or have it there waiting. |
