And got the following email...
Your order (Brownells confirmation #XXXXXXXXXX) contains an item that is
restricted in your area. Your complete order will be put on hold until the proper documents have been received. One of the following documents must be on file with us: A) Large Capacity Magazine Permit issued by your State B) If you are a police officer, your order must be submitted on Department letterhead stating that they will receive and validate your ID for the transport of high capacity magazines. The magazines must be shipped to the Department. The letterhead must be signed by your Superior Officer for each order. Either document can be faxed or mailed. If your document is not received within two weeks of the order being placed, your restricted item will be cancelled, unless we, the Gun Department, are contacted during this time. My "restricted" items are a 9 round magazine for my Glock 27 and the extender that adds 1 round. According to them all ammo, magazines and magazines accessories that could turn it into a large capacity magazines are restricted. Upon calling them to explain there was nothing illegal in my order I was told that if I send a copy of my permit/DL they'll ship, but really? Made me want to cancel the whole fucking order |

Most places online have been requiring documentation from us for buying magazines or ammo for a while now. Same as in local stores.
If you send the info, they'll ship, and you wont ever have to send it again. One time hassle, and then your all set for the future. Keep a folder on your desktop with your scanned copies so your always ready to buy online |

While its arguable the law doesn't apply to purchases made at businesses located in other states, more than a few online retailers are demanding one provide one of the relevant permits/certiicates to purchase ammo and magazines. http://www.cga.ct.gov/2014/sup/chap_529.htm#sec_29-38m Sec. 29-38m. Sale of ammunition or ammunition magazine. (a) For the purposes of this section and sections 29-38n to 29-38p, inclusive, “ammunition” means a loaded cartridge, consisting of a primed case, propellant or projectile, designed for use in any firearm, “firearm” has the meaning provided in section 53a-3, and “magazine” means any firearm magazine, belt, drum, feed strip or similar device that accepts ammunition. (b) No person, firm or corporation shall sell ammunition or an ammunition magazine to any person under eighteen years of age. (c) On and after October 1, 2013, no person, firm or corporation shall sell ammunition or an ammunition magazine to any person unless such person holds a valid permit to carry a pistol or revolver issued pursuant to subsection (b) of section 29-28, a valid permit to sell at retail a pistol or revolver issued pursuant to subsection (a) of section 29-28, a valid eligibility certificate for a pistol or revolver issued pursuant to section 29-36f or a valid long gun eligibility certificate issued pursuant to section 29-37p and presents to the transferor such permit or certificate, or unless such person holds a valid ammunition certificate issued pursuant to section 29-38n and presents to the transferor such certificate and such person’s motor vehicle operator’s license, passport or other valid form of identification issued by the federal government or a state or municipal government that contains such person’s date of birth and photograph. ... |
I didn't realize we had to have a permit for magazines now too. When I first called I was told I just couldn't buy them at all which is what annoyed me. It was only when I pressed the issue that I was transferred to someone who asked for my permit/DL. Oh well, fuck CT and such

Large capacity magazine permit? ![]() Uh no. There is no such thing as a "large capacity magazine permit". What there is among the other permits and certificates; an "Ammunition Certificate" which allows the holder to purchase ammunition and 10 round or less magazines. Only those in the exempted class (think gov employees) can purchase magazines holding more than 10 rounds.
As some are learning for the first time they need a permit to buy a 10 round or less magazine in addition to buying any kind of ammunition. Fuck Malloy and the rest of the "we have to do something crowd"! |

Amazing how many simply have no clue, even now almost two years later, that such legislation was passed. That one needs a state issued permit or certificate to buy ammunition or a magazine. What really pisses me off are those gun owners who don't care or even support such permits/certificates. This pretty much encapsulates my view.

Well, apparently Brownell's thinks otherwise. Or they're trolling. Probably terminology ignorance on behalf of the person who programmed the system to auto respond when it thinks someone is ordering an item their system indicates is banned in that state. Or there is a mistake in their system or their system is simply programmed to block all online orders for magazines by people from CT. <shrugs> |

I guess we'll know for sure when Brownells starts sending out annual mag tax reminders. |

What a complete failure these ridiculous laws are, still read about illegal shootings almost daily. Funny you never see the media reports question how the shooters got their ammo without "ammunition certificates". So where are the bad guy's getting their ammo for their illegal guns? Maybe the same way they got the guns? All the laws did is expand the available merchandise/inventory/profit margin for the peddlers. And of course make it difficult if not impossible for us to take advantage of competitive pricing from vendors. FDM |
