Since the update at Ctguntalk I have repeatedly been getting redirected into the App Store - the classifieds suck - ow and the page consistently loads with tons of icon errors! I am running safari and the admin at first said it was just me but then others chimed in. Safari-chrome & android seem to have the redirect problems.
"Erase your cookies" is not a solution and I'm sick of the admin's approach on it. "I
Don't have a problem must be you". Apple phones don't have viruses and I have been able to repeat on 4 different devices. I was a paying member and actually did not renew because of this. I sold a lot on that site but I guess I'm done with it.

I only go there when I get a time-out here.

I don't have a reason other than I like it here more.

I don't get redirected on two android devices nor on my PC's IE, Firefox, Chrome or Safari browser or on the shitty Tapatalk. The problem is the adverts. A similar problem happens here at ARFCOM from time to time. The solution for both is either use ad blocking software or be a paid member where many of the adverts are hidden.

The bottom line is that it costs money to run that site and to keep it free adverts are used to generate money. Sometimes the advert provider used by CTGT lets certain bad adverts through. The site owner does complain to their advert provider but they need specifics on which advert and where one is redirected to in order to get the bad advert blocked by their advert provider. Most times people bitch over there about the redirects, but don't include the specific location of the redirect or don't provide any information that could be of assistance to the site owner in tracking the bad advert down. The problem is this problem is not wide spread or consistent. It happens to a few users and cannot be repeatedly reproduced by many others who frequent that site.

Ad Block is one such program that should solve the redirect issue and can be installed to a variety of browsers.
IE: https://adblockplus.org/internet-explorer
Firefox: https://adblockplus.org/firefox
Chrome: https://adblockplus.org/chrome
Android: https://adblockplus.org/android
Opera: https://adblockplus.org/opera
Safari: https://adblockplus.org/safari
Yandex Browser: https://adblockplus.org/yandex-browser
Maxthon: https://adblockplus.org/maxthon

As to the new classified system. Some like it others don't. I guess the intent with the new system was to generate a wider audience of potential buyers.

Edit to add: I wonder how many of those who are having the redirect issue are clearing their device's cookies and browser history/temporary files? I've often wondered if the reason why its not repeatable to the site owner nor some others is because of the cookie/user tracking used by certain adverts as that user visits sites all over the internet. I rarely get site redirects these days on other websites since I started using Ad Block Plus on my browsers and using programs like CCLeaner and Glary Utilities to clean the cookies/temp files from the browser's.

I have sent screen shots a few different times and asked if becoming a paid member again would help. The issue continuesly happens and there is definitely a repeatability as many have complained. I don't plan on erasing my "cookies" every day because that website is spitting malicious advertisements.
Glad to see I am  not the only one.

Many have not complained, some have complained. If many have complained then there would be huge threads over there. There isn't, most threads are the same few people complaining about it and others reporting they are not having the problems. And that's the problem Its not happening to every single visitor which means its specific to those who are experiencing it. Its not just THAT website spitting malicious advertisements, many sites including this one have done it. By erasing tracking cookies you can limit to some extent the tracking of your activities online by the advertisers and the specific targeted ads they serve up that may be causing the popups and redirects on certain sites.

Have you tried using ad blocking software? Its been a godsend blocking the shitty ads that infest many websites not just the few on CTGT or here on ARFCOM that have caused me problems in the past.

I have started two or three topics one on redirects and one on the format being funky along with pictures and emails.I have read a few others as well. Hey his site his rules.  I am not aware of a third party iOS supported ad blocker for the I phone.

Edit to add: It has only been my experience that I can speak to. I have not had other redirects from other legit-sites. Thank you for the feedback.

I still go there, but often it hoses my computer and requires I reboot and all sorts of other shit.

I have no problems here, Northeast Shooters, XD Talk, or any other forums I am on (gun related or not).  CT Gun Talk is a VERY USEFUL website, but I have lots of problems with it doing all sorts of weird stuff to me.

EDIT:  Immediately after posting the above I went to CT Gun Talk, and instantly had a problem on the first page (I did not click on anything... just closed the browser).  I had to reboot.  Since rebooting everything is fine here and other websites.  Oh well.......  Perhaps in the future it will work better.  This type of stuff seems to come and go every few months over there.

Possible. The problem is it is not consistently happening for everyone. Some have the problem other do not. As we've seen most people who do complain about it do not provide any information that would help the site owner to track down the problem. Once in a while someone will post a link to the offending redirect site but most people simply say "I'm getting redirected, fix it". Having had to try and track down similar technical issues its very frustrating when one cannot reproduce the errors on their end.

My suspicion is those who have the problem are having certain advertising bots track their activities on the internet, not just on CTGT. Its one reason why it is suggested that one log out of the site, delete all cookies and temporary pages, close all browser instances, then open up a new browser instance and log back into the site to try and stop that advertising tracking. Not everyone wants to do that as we've seen for just one website.

As to the other poster's issue of not being able to use Ad Block Plus on their iPhone or iPad. Blame Apple for that. You can use the Add Block Plus extension in Safari on Windows and Mac OS X but apparently not on the iOS for iPhone/iPad. Apple apparently chose to locked down Safari and Chrome on iOS to prevent third party browser extensions from being installed. There are apparently iOS apps like AdBlock Browser for iDevices that can block ads and redirects but its a full browser app not a Safari browser plug in. And of course some will say why should I have to install an app to block the redirecting that is occurring on one specific website. <shrugs> To each their own.

The entertainment value of CTGT temporarily multiplies every time someone notable from this forum gets a timeout. Then it gets boring again. Way too many sub-forums for the amount of posts. If it's not on the front page or in the old classifieds, I don't read it.

If your not already, use the unread posts since last visit and new replies to your posts pages to view all the posts and those who have responded to your posts. Makes seeing everything or just the replies to your posts much easier than viewing the front page to see new posts.

I also have the issue with formatting on my iPad. the owner of the site blows it off as Apple does not conform to anything with Safari. I don't buy this answer. Some nights it works fine, and all of a sudden formatting errors. Then 10 minutes later it is back to normal. it is either one of the advertisers screwing it up with the ad or there is a server error.

I am upset because I just paid for a membership as I enjoy the site when it works. I do prefer it here though.

Also I have been trying to email and PM the site owner several times and he does not respond. I won a raffle there and want to pick up my loot but I guess I got screwed on that too.

Ain't that the truth. I do like the "other" forum too. I support both forums. After the "upgrade" the other site has a few annoyances. One being the random formatting error on my iPad. The other is the PM notification does not work anymore.

Twilight Zone , that's it!

I never have issues on my computer. Only on the iPad and only once and a while. That is why I think it might be one of the ads. Maybe when a certain ad is supposed to display it messes the formatting.

i know Nuke has had problems with ADs before

and its tough on him, hes a one many show unlike many other forums out there with a team of people tweaking stuff

me, SB, SAJ and the other mods just keep the peace, we have nothing to do with maintenence

It appears Nuke is working on bringing the "mobile" web version back.

The issue that some are experiencing with apple products is a combination of Apple's Safari and Apple's insistence on preventing Safari from using plugins on the iOS and possibly being tracked online via cookies. And the complex coding use on that site to drive not only the advertising which is used to keep the site "free" to most users but have other features like the classifieds. Its very possible the advertising tracking via cookies is showing certain ads that cause to redirect to some, but not others based on their past browsing history. That would explain why some are seeing the redirect or popups and others are not. The recent change in the classified system over there seems to have ruffled some feathers. Hope and Change never comes easy to some. I don't really use the classified system so I don't know if the new one is better than the old.

I spent an hour last night with two Android devices using Chrome on CTGT and didn't have a problem. I was not logged in as a user, simply navigated the areas I could as a guest. No popups or redirects at all. Using Safari on a Windows PC yesterday evening that doesn't have Add Block installed also didn't yield any redirect issues.

Its important to understand that not all browsers will display content the same way. And to make things worse browser display between tablet/phone and PC can be different. Having done a fair share of web page coding in the past, its a coder's nightmare trying to code for all browser compatibility and for viewing on both PC and tablet/smartphone while at the same time trying to have a feature rich site or page. The fact is some browser just don't display certain coding right or they ignore certain coding all together. Safari is one of those browsers.

Nuke is stuck in a bind on this. Does he disable advertising and loose money that funds the site? Does he try and find another advertising system that possible doesn't bring in the same amount of revenue? Does he spend hours trying to track down the code that causes "some" people to have display problems in Safari? Does he simply ignore those who have trouble viewing the site on their iPhone's and iPads using Safari? The reality is its his site and he is running it as he see's fit and that will not please everyone. On a side note there is one person on CTGT who complains from time to time about the site not working on their old computer/OS/browser. At some point as a site manager/owner there comes a time when its just easier to say "tough deal with it" as its not worth changing things for one or two people who are having problems.
