Guys

I just received a pre-ban receiver that cost me a good amount of money.  It is in very nice shape, but someone has installed the trigger guard backwards, with the roll pin in the hole where the detent goes!  Honest, it wasn't me, I am a trained mechanic, and a former Marine Corps armorer, and I know how it is supposed to be!

Here is my issue.  Since the detent hole is one-sided, the roll pin is now in a blind hole!  I cant get it out to turn the trigger guard around the right way.

I have tried masking off the receiver, and grabbing the little nub of the roll pin with vice grips, but it just isn't enough to hold on to.  About the only thing I can think to do is section up the pin end of the trigger guard with a dremel cut-off wheel until I can drive the roll pin in to clear the receiver.

Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated!

With some skill and confidence I bet you could drill it out. Or see if you can find an easy out and get it set in there and that may give you enough to get a good purchase on to pull it out?

I would cut the trigger guard from the middle then you can pull the pins out from the inside.

Trigger guards are cheap. I got about 20 spares you can have.

I have several methods I would try.

The first thing I would try is to thread a small screw into the center of the roll pin and then attach small vise grips (4") and tap with a hammer.

If that didn't work then you a couple of options. Both require finesse and patience.

You can try to cut the trigger guard off. I would cut off as close as possible to the roll pin. Then I would make a cut about 1/2 way across making the roll pin 2 pieces. Then cut as close as possible to the lower where the roll pin through hole is. Then you can slide the other half of trigger guard off the roll pin half stuck in the blind hole. Now using vice grips and a hammer tap the pin out. Then use a small punch to push to roll pin piece out of the through hole side.

If you have a drill press you can secure the lower to the drill press table and carefully drill the roll pin out. Use an undersized bit and work your way up. This will require patience.

Or you can drop to a gunsmith and have him remove it for you.

That ones broke dude. No good. But I'll give you $20 for it.

Dremel and cutoff wheel on the trigger guard (perpendicular to the roll pin) then remove guard and pull pin.

There are two great options up above.

Using a Dremel with a cutting wheel attached, just cut the trigger guard out and pull it off the roll pin, giving you all the grabbing surface you need to pull or push the pin the rest of the way through.

OR, twist a screw with a thread width that's tight enough to grab hold of the inside of the roll pin and then pull the two out as one.

I got myself a few of these, for all my ARs... Aluminum trigger guards

Agree with cutting the trigger guard out.  You could drill but if it wandered you'll end up elongating the hole.  I'd just sacrifice the very inexpensive trigger guard and install new.  Done and done.
