I went last weekend and the range officer asked me if i had a pistol permit to shoot my ar-15
I recently turned 21 thus i dont have my CCW. And i dont have the long arm certificate because i plan on getting my CCW. In the long run he accepted my ammunition cert to let me shoot. WTF is this all about??? |

WTF is this all about??? There is no such thing as a "CCW" permit for CT. What we have is a "state permit to carry pistols and revolvers". The laws currently do not mandate method of carry. As to the range requirement. Their range, their rules. Don't like it? Find somewhere else to shoot that doesn't have such requirements. They probably are simply trying to ensue that the person shooting (or at least one person in a group of people shooting) is licensed properly to protect themselves against possible civil or criminal charges. Most ranges have long asked for a person's pistol permit if they are shooting handguns so it should come as no surprise that they are now doing it for long guns. |

The unfortunate thing is that the individual seems to be acting contrary to their published operating policies (which require valid photo_ID and only require a permit or blue card from pistol shooters). What makes it worse is that while HRSA is a private, membership based, organization, their existence is premised on state subsidization via a land use agreement with DEEP, which mandates that HRSA have public hours (and actually requires a certain level of public precedence during that time). |

You are asked on sign in if you are shooting rifle and/or pistol. If you are shooting a pistol we ask to see the permit & thats what goes on the sign in sheet, otherwise a DL will do. At our meeting wednesday, one of the members brought up the question about rifle permits & his inquiry to a member of the public this past weekend .
I believe this was the person the OP encountered at the range. He was set straight. Please accept my apology on behalf of HRSA. |
