Does any DMV print up titles right there, or do they always have to get mailed to you?
I have a trailer Im selling, and I have the original title, but I need to get a new one printed up so I can sell it. Im not trying to register it, just get a title. I seem to recall, last time I got a new title, it was mailed to me. But I also didn't have the original title in hand. Can I just go to the Enfield DMV, or do I have to make my way down to Wethersfield, or are they going to just mail in no matter what? Thanks, guys. |

What's wrong with the old title that you cant use that? |

It has the original owner on the front, and my name written in the spaces on the back.
Im selling the trailer, so I need my name on the front, and to write in the new buyers name on the back. The only spots left are for dealerships to use, which I am not. ETA: I bought the trailer to use as a shed, I had no intention of registering it. I never knew you could do a "title only", I thought you HAD to register it to have the title officially put in my name. So now Im stuck. |

If I remember right, the DMV office in Hamden printed out the title on the spot for me once I was able to get the lean info from my bank on a car that got totaled.
Requesting a Replacement Title Requesting a Replacement Title The owner, legal representative (ie: power of attorney) or lienholder of the record must complete the Application for Replacement Certificate of Title (form H-6B). This application must be signed. The cost to obtain a replacement title is $25. If a lien (bank, credit union, etc.) was listed on the original title, a lien release must accompany the Application for Replacement Certificate of Title (form H-6B). The lien release must be on letterhead paper from the lienholder. The application will be returned if the lien release is not submitted. If the date of the lien is more than ten years and you are having difficulty obtaining a lien release from lender (out of business, changed name, etc.) you must provide a completed Motor Vehicle Ownership Affidavit (form H-115) in lieu of the lien release. If the vehicle was registered after February 1988, the duplicate title can be issued at any DMV Hub Office or Limited Service Office (NOTE: Putnam Office does not process replacement titles). The title will only be given to the owner, legal representative (ie: power of attorney) or lien holder of the record. Acceptable identification will be required. You can also mail the Application for Replacement Certificate of Title (form H-6B) to: Department of Motor Vehicles Title Unit 60 State Street Wethersfield, CT 06161 Be sure that the form is fully completed and signed. Include a $25 check (made payable to DMV), and a lien realease (if applicable). Requests through the mail take approximately 15 working days. Once the duplicate title is produced it will be mailed to the current titled owner or lien holder on record. Please note: Connecticut does not participate in any electronic title or electronic lien holder program and at this time is not able to receive an electronic title or lien holder record. |

Are you going to be at the rally? Id like to meet you, because at this point Im nearly certain you are a computer or something. Im always amazed at the wealth of information you (and JAD) are able to consistently provide. Thanks for this information, and your (and JADs') continued dedication to our little HTF here. ETA: Nevermind |

If you registered the trailer you should have received a title with your name on it. if not the state will have a title with the old owner still on it. You do not need a duplicate title you need a new title. New titles take a month or two.
If your name is on the back you can sell it by filling out a Q1 "Supplemental Assignment of Ownership and/or Bill of Sale". This form is for exactly your situation. When a vehicle is traded in and subsequently wholesaled from one dealer to another a Q1 goes with each subsequent sale until someone registers the vehicle. At this point a new title with the owner's name is listed on the front. Q1s are available at any DMV office. |

I had a buyer here today and they want it tomorrow. I can wait 2 months, but they wont. |

Just good a Googling for info in the internets. In this case I knew about the link because I had to get a title from the DMV on a car that got totaled. Since learned my lesson. All titles now go into a fire safe with other important documents. Edit to add: Currently a 'maybe' on going to the rally.
