I just ordered one of these for my new Saiga Sporter:

because the stock handguard is ugly as hell.

BUT, I have a magpul foregrip installed on my AR.

The Saiga Sporter is legal in CT as long as you don't convert, BUT because the Saiga handguard I intend to use would allow for my AR foregrip to be installed, does that make it "constructive possession of an assault weapon" or some bullshit?

What are my real options? Ditch the handguard on my AR to avoid such a situation?

Only in CT can having two perfectly legal firearms (registered AR-15) and Saiga Sporter (not an assault weapon on its own) result in a potential violation of the law.

Did I mention these laws are so god damn ridiculous....?

Just to clarify, the Saiga sporter is the 7.62x39mm (or .308, .223, 5.45x39,etc...) that we typically associate with the term Saiga?

Let me just say that the thought of those still being legal is inspiring to me, especially given the wording of the named ban list.

Who is selling them? Has DESPP issued a formal opinion on them? Inquiring minds are eager to know?  (and to know the basis behind their legality)

Places will transfer the 7.62, BUT that was too risky for me so I opted for 5.45 just to avoid the "AK-47 type" trap. the saiga shotgun sporters are a no go (banned).

I will PM you on specifics.

I cleared out a space in my inbox for you. Depending on what ends up happening with the MAK-90, I may end up going that route.

Aww I feel so special. PM sent.

I decided to cancel my order on the above. Not worth it. I'll just wait until I'm in free territory. Possibly jump the gun on converting the handguard to standard AK (no rails). Not sure if that's a smart idea, though, as it brings the "look" and "parts interchangeability" even closer to an AK.

I've seen saiga sporters around.  Usually in .308

Wonder if we can get the Veprs?  I think those are def banned by name though.
