what to do with mags you own that wont work in any guns you own? will they give you a hassle? either physically wont work in any gun you own or an LCM that you cant legally use in a post 4/4/13 gun. ie., a glock 15/33rd G19 mag that would fit any G19, but legally cant use in a post 4/4 G19 |

The bill does not appear to address large capacity magazines that are for guns you do not have, or no longer have. If they are classified as large capacity magazines and you "lawfully possessed" them when the bill was signed, then they would still have to be registered by January 1, 2014.
There doesn't appear to be anything preventing you from using a "declared" Glock 33rnd magazine in any Glock 9 mm so long as its at the range or your home. Same goes for any other magazine that is universal between several handguns while in your home or at the range. It appears the language of the magazine extending below the grip is in relation to having a valid permit to carry pistols which has lead many to assume that they meant that subsection to cover carrying a handgun in public with "declared" large capacity magazines. There doesn't appear to be anything prohibiting using lawfully possessed LCM's in handguns purchased after the bill was signed. Rather the bill indicates that any handgun sold after the bill was signed cannot be sold with an LCM as the LCM will not be lawfully possessed by the buyer. Post updated. |
| actually, the law is pretty clear, in that you can use any HCM in public as long as it doesn't extend past the grip and as long as you don't load more than 10 into the mag; and extended HCM's cannot be used anywhere but a range or your own property, or a friends property with their permission. pistol permit or no pistol permit, makes no difference. they only included the mention of a pistol permit in the law to clarify that you need a pistol permit to carry a handgun in public, and therefore need to have a pistol permit in order to carry a non-extended HCM in your handgun |
