Just picked up 2 AK's over the winter that I want to go shoot, I'm in NY, but on the CT border so I'm going to try to go out there tomorrow. From everything I read, it looks to be a cool place to shoot. However I'm a noobie when it comes to shooting. The only chance I got to shoot anything was like 10 years ago, so I guess I'm wondering, at places like Highrock can I get someone to show me the basics? What would be an appropriate amount to pay someone to show me proper stance, basics of shooting, etc., I mean I know how to operate the rifle, but still first time, so would love to get some tips and basic knowledge.
Also, these are my roommates rifles, I bought them butthe bill of sale is under her name, city I still have NYC license, but does she always have to present when I go to the range? She'll go out there with me regardless, but there might be times I want to leave the ball and chaing behind! |

If it is an AK47 and not 74 I wouldn't bring it into CT unless you want a whole lot of trouble. If it is a 74 you are good to go, and it doesn't matter who "owns" the rifle.
Highrock is open to the general public, and if you want someone to go through the basics you should probably bring someone along who has experience shooting. You might find someone there who is willing to help, but in my experience everyone there is generally on the line shooting as fast as they can. |

There is also the Wooster Mtn. shooting range on Route 7 Just south of Danbury which is closer to the NY border than HighRock in Naugatuck.
As the other poster indicated per our state's AWB the Avtomat Kalashnikov AK-47 type is a banned firearm. |
Guess it was a good thing I asked! I was just going to head out there! Wow that's terrible about the 7.62x39 caliber... and I was thinking of moving to CT too! lol. Guess not. Well thanks for the heads up. I'll be getting some AR's or AK74's soon haven't decided which route I want to go with the smaller caliber rifles, so I guess I'll have to wait until then to visit Highrock.
Thanks guys. |
