Is there anyway to get a hold of an AK in CT? Legally or Illegally?
Legally you can have an AK 47 type so long as it is NOT chambered in 7.62x39. You can have them chambered in .223/5.56. Somewhere there was a letter that detailed the DPS new "reinterpretation" on the AK-47 type firearm. I think their view was that the weapon could not be chambered in 7.62x39 and could not have major interchangeable parts like magazines and bolts. Keep in mind that any AK type that is legal still has to conform to the AWB if its post ban. Illegally (and you get caught) than expect to spend some time in the pokey. |

Get an Ak-74. Ammo's cheaper too. This. I have an Arsenal SLR-105 and I love it. I doubt I'd even get a 47 if we were allowed to. How is the reliability? Is it as tough as a 47? I'm not very familiar with the ak-74. I was really wanting something with the punch of the 7.62x39 |

Tough as nails! The build quality on the Arsenals is outstanding for an AK. I have a few thousand through it and can't recall any malfunctions of any kind. They're just AKs chambered in a different round. I believe the 5.56 AKs are just as reliable too. If you want the punch of 7.62, go for an SKS. Not as legendary, but very reliable! |

That's what i was thinking, SKS. Can you use a 30rd mag with them in CT? I have only seen them with the non-removable type. |

He is in CT and wants $500 including 9 30 rounders and 1 five. That is your best bet if you want a mag fed SKS. Their scarcity is what warrants the price. You would be better off with that than one of the other SKS hi-cap/detachable conversions. Another option is to buy a VZ-58 (which will cost you several hundred dollars more), or to buy/build a 7.62x39 AR (I know an FFL in New Britain that has a used one with a Colt upper––I can forward his info to anyone interested)- but that will cost in the same ballpark as the VZ-58. |

You may also want to consider the VZ58. It shoots the 7.62x39 and takes 30 round magazines.
If you really want an AK and are on a tight budget, then look for a Romanian WASR-2 and buy the relatively cheap 5.45x39 military surplus ammo that is currently on the market. |

whats the legality of this if you build it yourself? bend the reciever, get the parts kit, substitute the proper amount of parts for american made ect. It could not be chambered in 7.62 x 39 and it would have to be AWB compliant for CT and 922r compliant for Fed. |

Thanks for the Bump! I have 2 AK74s, Both in 5.45 Both so reliable you wouldn't believe me if I told you. I always wondered If you built an AK in 6.5Grendel would it be legal? Even takes the same mags as the 47. |

i thought 47 was banned by name and type. 5.45/5.56 are a 74 type and legal
this shit makes my head hurt As long as it doesn't have the evil features, any AK47 "type" rifle besides one that are chambered 7.62x39 is good to go. .223/5.56,.308,5.45 I had this discussion with a guy before, He explained it like this. 47 is a specific type, The reason all other calibers are not banned is because they are not a 47 type they are a 74 type CLose but technically different rifles. IMO If one built a 6.5 grendel AK you would have to use a 74 kit, not a 47 kit, I don't think that would work. |
