You probably saw the NRA email, but if you didn't, Governor Rell signed the No Net Loss bill.

It means that if an acre of hunting land is closed, another acre has to be opened!

Yeah a bill for the "Fudd's". When are we getting a bill so we can have all our black rifles that aren't neutered!

this came up a while ago, I have no idea where the hotspots are, but if someone is up for it I would try, I have never done any hunting other than deer and pheasant, would be up for just going out and trying my luck

Lower Pauguesett in Newtown has a few coyote running around.
Spotted them while spring turkey hunting.

Up until a couple years ago, they were howling at each other all around my place.  3 or 4 most nights.  2 of them chased a cat through my backyard at dusk one night 20 feet away from me.  Then suddenly, nothing.  For 2 years I haven't heard them at all.  Someone must've cleaned them out.

Just make an AR chambered in "Thirdy thirdy" and give it wood stocks.  The Fudds will have trouble giving it stinkeye.  If ruger made it and gave it a 5 round non-detachable mag, they would be fistfights at the gun shops for team realtree to get their hands on one.

On the coyote issue.  Well I see them just about every night at our place in Old Lyme.

Even if the laws allowed it, I couldn't shoot them.  It is a little beach community and any overpenetration would be a serious issue.  The coyotes are roaming in inhabited areas because of the insane residential development in their habitat.

Before that started, you would hear them, but they were distant.

Hypothetically speaking, what is a good round for 'yote for a handgun round?  I take a lot of beach walks and what not when down there and want to be sure I can handle them if I were to come upon one that does not run.

I normally carry a 9mm Hk with 147gr gold dots.  Heavy, slow, good expansion.  Should I look for more penetration from a heavier, lighter round?
Could I use .38spcl +P 135gr gold dots?  Or should I be packing my .357mag?  I'm sure that will blow them halfway to china with the loads I have for that, but it's a big gun and little clumsy for CCW, even at night.
Would a .22LR from a rifle length barrel do it with a headshot?

I've never shot a living thing before and have no idea on hunting.  I've been about 15 feet away from them standing stunned in my front doorway ready to draw on them.

Oh yeah, craploads of foxes now too.  Cute critters.  Any danger?  Or are they just some retarded dog/squirrel hybrid that I can just kick?

I'm just waiting until I see a lynx with a seagull in it's mouth crawling over the rocks on the beach
