This is the response I received today from leiberman, after emailing him quite some time ago regarding Eric Holders' comments on renewing the AWB. Not a suprise, but still a reminder of how a liberal will distort the meaning of the Second Amendment, and try to justify punishing everyone except the criminals.
Dear Friend: Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition to additional gun control laws. I am sorry that we see this issue from different points of view. I have long believed the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantees law-abiding Americans the right to own a gun. The Supreme Court recently said the same; but, like every other constitutional right, it is not unlimited in all circumstances. Current federal law (the Gun Control Act of 1968; P.L. 90-618) bans the possession of a firearm by persons convicted of any non-business related felony, minors, users of illegal drugs, and persons found to be mentally incompetent. I supported the Brady Law, which mandates background checks to ensure that those seeking to buy guns are lawfully allowed to do so; and I have cosponsored legislation that would close the gun show loophole - which allows convicted felons and people on terrorist watch lists, among others, to evade the Brady background checks. You will also be interested to know that I have voted to reauthorize the assault weapons ban. Gun crime remains a critical public safety problem. For too long, it has unnecessarily divided the Congress; and the American people have been left to suffer the consequences. However, the reality is that many Americans agree on most of the critical questions: that the laws on the books should be enforced, the rights of law-abiding gun owners should be protected but unnecessarily dangerous weapons banned, and guns should be kept out of the hands of those who cannot use them responsibly. Thank you again for sharing your views and concerns with me. I hope you will continue to visit my web site at http://lieberman.senate.gov for updated news about my work on behalf of Connecticut and the nation. Please contact me if you have any additional questions or comments about our work in Congress. Sincerely, Joseph I. Lieberman UNITED STATES SENATOR |

I feel like I've read that same generic letter somewhere else before. Oh that's right he sent the same thing to another member who asked a gun related question.
It's pretty annoying that they can't even come up with some creativity and at least have a few different versions of the letter to send out. Quoted:
So, i emailed my Senator from the Great State of Connecticut about standing in up in congress for our rights as gun owners. I expected to get a big "uhh, go f**k yourself" from him... and I was right note: i removed my name and address from his response and my name is replaced by my user name April 20, 2009 Dear Mr. "ctdemolay0405": Thank you for contacting me to express your opposition to additional gun control laws. I laughed out loud when I received a similar canned response from him about his anti 2A position a year or two ago. Its rather funny to see how politicians claim to support the 2nd Amendment in one breath and then detail all the things they will do to infringe on it in the next breath.
The sad thing is most people in this state will vote for him and Dodd in the next election. These guys could kick the family dog and still get re-elected. For the life of me I don't understand why people continue to vote for the same corrupt politicians year after year all the while they b**** about them being corrupt.

I think you're wrong about Dodd, he's all done. I hope I am wrong and Dodd isn't re-elected. But, I don't have much faith in some of my fellow citizens here. I was probably the only one not to vote for Obama and the other Dem's at the voting booth in my district here in New Haven last November. Rosa Delauro is another one who is very much anti 2A. It was rather comical to hear her try to defend the 2nd Amendment and yet talk about all the things she supports that infringe on it when I asked her about her views a few years ago when I ran into her at a St Patrick's Day parade in New Haven. I cannot believe these politicians actually can say with a straight face that they are trying to reduce crime with the various anti gun bills they espouse. Even when confronted with proof the first AWB and other anti gun laws don't impact crime they continue to advocate another one to "reduce" crime as a way to convince voters that their tough on crime. Sadly many voters continue to think another AWB is a good idea and will reduce crime. |
