Someone had told me that the National Guard range
near Mt. Mansfield HS is open to the public. Is that
the case?

I ask because I am looking for a public range in the
greater BTV area where I can take a couple of buddies
once in a while. Unfortunately, I can't get them to
plunk down $30 for a membership at my club since they
don't own any firearms currently (hopefully, I can change
that ).

Thanks in advance

TheCynic, I know for a fact that that range is off limits to the public.  It actually belongs to the government(how typical).  My wife actually works for the DOJ and the agents go there for target practice.  She is allowed to go but because I'm a civilian I can't join them.  Once a year they do however have the range open to the public for the event "Operation Bullseye"  it happens towards the end of summer or beginning of fall, I can't quite remember the date.  Sometimes if your in the area you can hear the National Guard boys firing the Howitzers into the moutain side.   Sorry to deliver the bad news.  hinking.gif

Also, where is your club located.  I'm always interested in finding other places to shoot and meet other shooters.  I have my own 100m range behind my home but it's nothing fancy at all and choose to keep it low profile hHog

Darn. Thanks for the info! Someone also said that this
range is where GD tests the M61... I'll take that with
a grain of salt as well, though, I'd love to see that thing
in action!

I'm a member at Chittenden Co. Fish and Game in Jonesville.
I try to get out weekend afternoons. It's a nice range, but
private, so I can't take my buddies to indoctrinate them
let them play with my toys.

I live on the back side of the range...been pretty quiet up there this year for obvious reasons. The heavy stuff (arty/tanks) will shake the house on impact and I wake up many mornings to the BUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPP of the GenDy toys!!

I've shot the sniper course up at the Mtn. Warfare school, shot the pistol course and a couple other places. Nice layout up there though Joe Public can not go up.

You guys should shoot me an email so we can get a list of VT SHOOTERS generated. I'd like to have a good list in case we need immediate action on firearms related stuff in VT. It's been quiet but ya never know w/ all these libs we've got moving in!

Good to see more Vermonters!

I run the Tactical Firearms Unit up at Norwich University- We'll be back in session in a few weeks- we have a good place to go up near williston. I can get back to you in a few weeks when I get up there and find out if the pit is open for us again this year. We have about 300yds at a sand pit that's about 75 feet deep.... LOTS of blasting up there when we go..

Hello Gentleman - reporting in from the Liberal bastion of Burlington.  Anyway - I really, really need to join a Range.  I have no prob putting down a few bucks, I just need direction on where to go?  Unlike your buddies, Cynic, I am not firearm deficeint, so droping $30 to jon a club is no prob. .

What's going on GreenMt?
