I've been to the last two Polar bear shoots...buddy hasn't though.  It says you need a statement of character or a concealed carry permit....you guys know who hard it is to get one of those in in RI? Thanks for you help. John

I used to live up there and was a TAG member.
You didn't, as of two years ago, need to be  a NFGA member. They charged a nominal fee to join and to shoot (less than $10-).
You would need to shoot a qualifer to participate (basically they need to ensure you are not a menace on the range) as it's a hot range-all weapons are loaded all the time.
It was easily the best training I ever had, and I would move back there just for that in a heartbeat. Great group of folks, I cannot recomend them highly enough as a quality assembly of fantastic people and some real, bona fide riflemen.
E-mail them, they will be very helpful.
