Idiots 1-5: Hey I know you are asking $300, but would you take $175 cash today?? Not worth responding to. Not that desperate. Yet. I'm no stranger to talking a man down, but within reason. I imagine the guy on the other side of the computer with that hopeful smile on his face like Ralphie had from a Christmas story when he's asking Santa for the Red Ryder BB gun. Maybe.. just maybe.. Idiots 6-10: I was wondering if the said firearm is still available. Response: Yes it is. Idiots 6-10: Crickets..... I guess they were just curious. Idiot 7: I'll take it! I can meet at 7. Response: Sweet. See you then! Idiot 7: Sorry. The wife said no. I almost feel for the fellow in this situation, but personally I never ask the wife. I just either sneak it in (If I care on that given day), or just walk right in and say the hell with it. If I felt compelled to ask, I would do it before writing someone. Sometimes you just wonder about the human race. A few centuries ago nature automatically sorted out the weak for us. Like walking away from the village at night to take a wizz and ignoring the hair sticking up on the back of your neck and bam! Lion chow. Nowadays the same people walk around clueless in their 'safe' little bubbles, noses in their iPhones. Unless they forget to look both ways. |

Quoted: I'll admit, I've been in the 6-10 group, but more times then not the seller is the one who doesn't respond and if they do I'll reply back. I'll only ask this question if the ad has been on there a little while. |

I've never done any of that crap and it makes me crazy when other folks do. Never hurts to inquire about negotiating a lower price but don't insult the seller in the process. I've had plenty of people pull that stuff on me, not selling guns but gun related stuff. I literally had 3 people in a row want to buy something only for all three to agree to a meeting place/time and then never show up. Two of which even tried to negotiate a lower price and then still didn't show up. I quit selling stuff after that and haven't sold anything since. Although, since deer season is approaching I'm thinking about selling some nice Rocky boots so maybe I'll give the human race another try.
I can add one other group to the list.... The ones that agree to a price, a meeting place/time and then once they show up start trying to get you to lower the price! That one irritates me enough I'll just put whatever I'm selling back in the car and leave. Admittedly I did actually let a guy have a $20 off a shotgun I sold but he drove all the way from Tulsa to OKC and was really easy to work with. Plus he was already paying me $300 more for it than I paid so I wasn't to upset about it. Other folks, hell no. You agree to pay an agreed upon price you show up with enough money and pay it like an adult. Then there is the B.S. line that "Oh, dang, sorry I know we agreed on $50 but I only have $40, I must have counted wrong or misplaced the extra" and then stand there like the seller is supposed to say "Well heck, honest mistake, just give me the $40 and I'll call it good". Uh huh....."Well shucks, why don't you just go ahead and take it on home and we'll forget about this whole money thing"....lol |

If I was married and the hubby said he wanted to buy another gun my response would be "Fair enough but it means I get a new one too!" |
