Yeah that tornado made a radical turn and caught even the professionals off guard.

That other car that passed them obviously knew 40 was not enough!

These guys had no business chasing a storm.

Anyone else think the driver looked like something out of Napoleon Dynamite?

The funnist part is watching the driver and hearing him say "Are we Ok??"  several times.

i think they should make it illegal to chase storms.   at least make it to where you have to get a license to chase for scientific purposes.  those out there purely for the video and pictures have no need for that. its too dangerous.

now storm spotting, thats a different situation.  trying to get eyes on a tornado to warn citizens of imminent danger, that is beneficial.  these idiots out there with 15 video cameras are gonna get somebody killed just trying to get a damn video or picture.

eta: that front seat passenger is a little pussy.

Interesting to see that comments were disabled for the video, I guess they don't want anyone pointing out the obvious:

You drove INTO the path of the tornado DUMBASS!

That's one of the many reasons trained storm chasers follow the storm from behind.  I saw a video the other day from one of those untrained storm chasers who was shooting video through their windshield, they were obviously extremely close to the tornado, but you couldn't see anything, the tornado was wrapped in rain, but you could see enough debris blowing around to see they were too close.  This was insanely stupid, if they took a direct hit they would probably have died, and since they couldn't see the tornado they had no idea how close they were.

The tornado was just wanting to give them a close up! It is a wonder that they didn't get someone hurt.

What I've heard from multiple people, is this particular twister/storm threw even the seasoned veterans for a loop.  It changed directions, and didn't even look like it was moving.  There were more than just a couple of chasers who got caught in this one.  It could have been a lot worse.  Thanks to extreme chasers like Reed Timmer, and the Storm Chasers show, there are too many 'tards out there now chasing.

That SUV that passed them on two wheels, I wonder if that was the Weather Channel crew, it was reported they rolled their vehicle.

I don't buy that "changed directions" excuse, I can't see any way that it could change enough to catch them like that, the better guess is they were a bunch of dumbasses who zigged when they should have zagged, they drove into the path of the storm when they should have driven the other way.  Watching the video it appears they thought they could beat the tornado and cross its path before it got to the road, it was a bad bet and they lost.

Naaw the weather channel's vehicle was white, a big Yukon, which I think rolled by I-40.  Breaking news this am, 3 veteran chasers were among the dead from the El Reno twister Friday night that caught so many off guard.  Tim Samaras, his son and chase partner Carl were all killed by the twister it appears.  They were well known from the show Storm Chasers. RIP

I remember Samaras from the TV show, I'm surprised he got caught, he had enough experience to know where he should be.
One reason I remember him is that his name was so similar to Samara, the old guy that owned the model T all painted up in OU colors, the name was so close I wondered if there was some relation.

Timmer's got no sense chasing anything in a PT Cruiser, which is what his intercept vehicle started life as.
imagine chasing tornados in a re sheet metaled Neon.

In the beginning of his TV series they showed the new Dominator being built on a GM SUV didn't they?  I wonder what happened to that other chase vehicle built like a tank? That thing was awesome!

I thought the Dominator was built on a Dodge Cummings diesel frame?

at the very begining of storm chaasers Shawn was the main dude, his first TIV was a 2 wheel drive dually ford.
then the 2nd season he tried to field a 4WD and thats when Timmer and his college buddies showed uo in the PT Cruiser, unarmored.
chasing storms and selling the footage to whoever would buy it.(and plugging his website)
then Timmer armored up and tried to out Shawn Shawn.
Shawn got his "money shot" (the IMAX footage) and said screw you guys i'm going home
first time out wit hth Dominator the top peeled back like a tuna can, going doen the highway and the fixed it with self tapping sheet metal screws.
on a Mythbusters episode they had the 2 together and Timmer's was still clearly a punk.

well, Wiki says i'm totally wrong, so be it.

I was thinking the first one was built on a Chevy pickup, Wiki says a Tahoe so that's fairly close.

Just looking at Ralphie May's photo tells you all you need to know about his qualifications to criticize anyone else.
