Most recent word I have heard is he's hiding in a boat but they think they shot him. Heard SWAT and bomb squad are on station.

There currently is no state death penalty in Massachusetts, life without the possibilty of parole being the only punishment for first-degree murder. The federal government prosecutes capital cases within Massachusetts .

Anyone heard what nationality these two are? The names sound more Mediterranean than middle eastern and they look more like Greek to me.  They have the same last name so I assume they are brothers.

iirc a town in northern chechnya was the place the terrorists took over the school for several days in protest of russian occupation 10 years back or so.

they raped a bunch of the kids, put them on landmines and surrounded them with their schoolmates, on the third or fourth day one of the kids after being raped, beat and stood on a landmine for a couple days was so exhausted fell off the landmine and blew up a bunch of kids surrounding her.

the russian military hearing the explosion said shit they're killing them stormed the buildings.

when all was said and done like 350 were dead, approx 200 of them children; a few of the terrorist made it out only to be caught by the townspeople and and killed.

ETA: the town was belsan

The Russians used gas to run the terrorists out. A lot of the kids died from the gas and the resulting firefight. I don't remember the mine and kid but I have no doubt it was in the mix.

iirc that was another chechen terrorist/hostage incident that occurred in russia around the time period.

here is the beslan incident I'm thinking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beslan_school_hostage_crisis

ETA:
here is the one where the russians used gas; and it was in a moscow theater:

I definitely remember that, it was a terrible situation, virtually a no win situation, but the Russians never worry too much about the hostages, they want to take the terrorists down and don't care if they have to kill the hostages to do it.

The Russians are terrible, I knew an OBU professor, now deceased.  He was a child in Czechoslovakia in WW2, he remembers how badly the Germans treated the civilians, then the Russians came in a ran the Germans out, as bad as the Germans were, the Russians were even worse.

Ive told people who ask about chechnya fighters that we had word several times for many patrols that Chechyan snipers would be in the area.

I tell them that Id rather face an insurgent with a car bomb then face a chech fighter/sniper. They give even less fucks than Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

do a google search on "Caucasus region" "people of the caucasus" etc.

it's a area caught right in the middle of eastern europe/southern russia & the northern middle east; it is a mix of religions, languages & customs and all of them fight each other all of the time over territory, religions, customs and any who they perceive as enemies.

like the balkans region; they can't hardly get along with their neighbors either

now they're reporting me wasn't Mirandized when arrested, and will have a Public Defender if he survives.
wonder how that's gonna work out?

probably going to call it under the patriot act/DoHS/domestic terrorism etc. since it involved "explosives"

I think they didn't read him the rights so they can keep the door open for possible .mil trial since it's been declared an act of terrorism.

yeah, ship him to Gitmo, wring him out and disappear him would be the best solution.

definitely don't need a dog and pony show.
