SB1733 and SB1743 both passed their votes in the House today.

SB1733 is open carry.

SB1743 is suppressors for hunting.

Where does it go from there?  The Senate or the Gov?

I am not sure on the open carry bill since both bills have passed both houses. I think the suppressor bill is going back to the Senate for some clarification of the language then off to the Governor.

Hopefully Senator Russell can come in and help shed some light on the paths.

That sounds good and all but its NOT constitutional  carry. Its licensed carry the only thing I see this doing is keeping someones but out of trouble for printing who has a license. A licensed  right is not a right. The definition of a license is a granted privilege. The privilege can be revoked by the individual or group of individuals granting the license as they see fit.

I agree with what you said. However, we certainly didn't lose the rights in one shot and unfortunately won't get them back in one shot either. I would have preferred a public land or nothing approach on the suppressor bill and pushed Senator Russell about that. However the first committee the bill was assigned to was proof the bill wouldn't survive very long with the public land option.

Both say they are ready for "engrossment".
Definition -  Regarding, bills and resolutions, the drafts made prior to the final vote of the legislature are called engrossment
I guess that means the language has to be hammered out between the two bodies of the Legislature, then voted on again by both bodies, then signed by the governor if passed.
I can't find the veteran/PTSD/SDA bill. I'm hoping that is passed too. .

At least it is a step in the right direction.  I would love to see eventual Constitutional Carry and the ability for suppressor use on public land.  I can not for the life of me understand why we have so much back-push in a red state.

We are a red state that started out a very, very socialist state going way back into state history. So I will concede that we have made many great strides in eroding socialism in Oklahoma.

Freedoms are won one year at a time, if that.  It took Alaska 10 years to get to where they are.  Having worked in 2a rights in Iowa, I can tell you that this both is a big win, and only a stepping stone.  Iowa passed OC and shall issue all in one season.  But they're still working on constitutional carry, nfa, castle doctrine, etc.

It ain't over with till the governor signs it. We've been here before and Gov Brad Henry wouldn't sign it.
Then a lot of legislators that voted for it (enough to over ride the veto) disappeared when it came up for the veto over ride.
I hope we all get to hear the fat lady sing about this soon!!!!!!

If you're under the illusion you are free, they can come get you any time they want.
You're not "free".
Believe me, you've broken federal law simply by breathing. There are so many federal regulations (and state) that you've broken several of them inadvertently.
If they want you, they'll come and get you for one of them.
Open carry, whether it's licensed or not, is a challenge to their absolute authority.
Be glad if it is passed in either form.
I feel as strongly as you do about it but you have to be realistic.
Deal with some of these legislators who think they know what is best for the unwashed masses and you'll be as cynical as I am.
They have the power given to them by the people and only the people can take it away.
Good luck getting that done.

I didnt take anything in the ass, not even for the first time!! You might want to tone down your rhetoric when posting directly to people that are supposed to be on the same side. I have lived in this state for four years so I can assure you I did nothing to get the state to the point it was before. I sure the hell have been working on my end to try and change things since moving here. As Dan said, you are not as free as you think so maybe it is you that is the sheep living in a dream world. If you were so free, you wouldnt need to worry about any bills or Congress and you would be running around open carrying!! I know that Oklahomans surely didn't lose all these rights in one shot and we damn sure won't get them back in one shot either.

Edit: I find it funny you are in here spouting a bunch of crap while the Ok2A announcement Dan posted said it was a banner day for the Second Amendment. So what is it dear all knowing OK2A member, a bunch of ass humping or a banner day?!?!?

Many people express their dissatisfaction with gov't in different ways. His method may be abrasive but that doesn't mean his opinion isn't the same as yours - open endorsement of full and complete 2A rights.

Postings like that does nothing to help anyone or any cause.

Since he felt the need to quote my post twice and address it twice, I felt obligated to respond and clear up the situation. I am not completely happy with SB1743 as I wanted it to be for public and private land. However, I am smart enough to know Oklahoma didn't lose the right over night or in one year and we won't get them back that way either. I also don't go around talking down to those that at least supported and helped push the bill either. For someone who promotes OK2A meetings on OKHTF, he might want to rethink his approach on some issues because he will drive more people away than attract. The whole honey and vinegar thing.

Ruffled a few feathers, did I? Got your attention didn't I? I have always been rude, crude and socially unacceptable and now politically unacceptable. I will never accept scraps from the King's table (Legislatures) not even the smallest crumb. Do you attend the meetings? If so, thank you. These kind of bullshit laws should enrage all the members. And, yes I have carried all my adult life, the words concealed and open carry do not exist in my vocabulary. This is the only law that counts, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed". I fear the only way we will ever have constitutional carry will be to take it back at the point of a gun when the upcoming shit storm finally hits the fan. It has already begun. And from the ashes and chaos a new stronger God fearing America shall emerge. Where in the Constitution will be the supreme law of the land once more. Be vigilant, be prepared. I love my First Amendment rights also! LOL.

I'm totally all over 2A rights but there are certain elements in our society that have no business openly carrying nor CCing,

I would like open carry to be a constitutional carry but I feel better about the folks packing to be licensed. If you question this go

Wow just goes to show that there are people of every kind all over the states.  We encountered a "all or nothing" group in Iowa when we were rtrying to pass our laws.  They accomplished pissing off the speaker of the house, spreading bad media about our cause, and nearly got our bills tossed in to the trash can.  I can't fucking stand people who think they can just complain and say they want it their way or no way.  Welcome to a democracy!  There's always an opposing view!  You have to work with that.  That's what makes this country great!  Yes the 2nd amendment is in the constitution.  We get it.  However, there were also provisions left in the constitution to AMEND things wasn't there!  Oh fancy that.  It was so we could adapt to our surrounding environment, ideals, and morals.  So guess what, we constantly have to fight to keep/reverse/add to what we believe to be right.  Stop wasting your passion on complaining about how things should be, and MAKE them BE!

Thomas, it's a right to self defense. When gov't says you can't use certain means to defend yourself against criminals, it's out of hand.
It has been for generations. In Oklahoma, it's all about money and not what a fairly poor person can afford.
That's not right by any means.
But I agree with you, get as much as we can as nicely and persuasively as we can, then come back next year for more.
All I can say is Rep Sue Tibbs either lied to me last year or she had a lot of pressure put on her. The Senator from Lawton thinks the people are idiots and can't be trusted to defend themselves.
That pisses me off no end.
All I can say is sometimes no matter how nice, persuasive and persistent you are, you're not going to change the mind of an egotistical and highly opinionated legislator.

4/28/2012 6:51:37 PM EDT
[#31]
That's not necessarily true.  You just need a way to get the message out there.  Mass emails, facebook, mailing groups, USPSA/IDPA/IPSC competition groups.  Even if they disagree, they can't argue with an overwhelming majority of people calling them and saying "Hey vote for this bill".  At least, that's what we saw in our case.  Also, Id be interested to see what lobbyists are in the capital putting these bills down.  We came across some real shady anti-2a lobbyists that were being financially supported by county sheriff funding, and we exposed the hell out of them.

Open carry, without a license, passed two years ago but was vetoed by the governor. The legislators that voted for it, way more than was needed to over ride the veto, disappeared when it came back up to vote for over riding the veto.
They didn't want their names as being against it, but they sure didn't mind NOT SUPPORTING it by inaction.
Anything to keep their votes.
As far as the lobbyists being against 2A bills, it's the State Chamber of Commerce and state employees in education.
They get paid  on the taxpayers' dime to lobby the legislators. NO BS.
That may mean more money for education to "ban guns".
You've got a lot to learn about the politics in this state.

We are not sitting on our hands.  We are taking our legislators shooting, exposing myths, calling, emailing and supporting those candidates with time and money that support the Second amendment.

We are making progress.

Senator Steve Russell has been a great help with bills he has written and sponsored.  We will greatly miss him.

Dan or some one on here always puts up the links to our representatives emails and phone numbers when something important comes along and that is a great help.

Several of us have become well known to our reps and we don't BS them, just give them our opinions and the facts.

We take every advantage to be seen and heard at local meetings.  We get to know the opposition at these same meetings and find their strengths and weakness and use them to our advantage when we can.

It isn't easy, but we are pushing forward.

The bills are still heading for conference. That means that final language will be determined. The suppressor bill is in very good shape. The reciprocity bill should go directly to the governor. The PTSD for vets bill is in good shape and will likely pass. The open carry has a senate and house version. They will likely combine into a final language bill. It will either be a CCL-Open carry or and open carry with a training safety card. Likely will be something of the former. Still deciding what to do to keep our path on constitutional carry. Overall, a very good year for 2A rights in OK. Steve
