I probably should be posting this in my Myriad Gardens section but this seems a bit important so I'm doing this as a stand-alone.
Tomorrow, if any of you have any plans to come downtown I would highly suggest getting here early whether your going to see the Thunder, Blazers Barons, or whatever. The Arts Council has estimated 10s of thousands of people will be at the Gardens for New Years. What does this mean for downtown goers? 1. A good section of the downtown area will be blocked. Mostly Sheriden from Robinson to Lee. Hudson at Reno is already blocked off. 2. The top floors of the parking garage to the west of the Devon tower will be cordoned off because the fireworks will be launched from the top of it. 3. Upwards of 80,000 people are expected to attend the concerts, food and festivities. The whole downtown area will be freakin PACKED. If you want to come, get here early and plan to stay till at least 2am (0200 for you .mil types  )
I manage to get eyes-on a briefing packet last night. From what Ive seen of it Opening Night set up will begin at 7am when they will be bringing in the crane, ball an sound equipment. Lots of OCPD, OCFD, EMSA and the cop helo will be here. About 5 till midnight the helo will shine its spotlight all over the gardens for 2 mikes, then all the emergency vehicles will flash their lights and sirens for about 4 mikes with the fire truck sounding their horns at about midnight when the ball drops and the fireworks fire off. The packet I saw didn't have an "official" look to it, so Im not 100% sure this stuff is set in stone so to speak but this gives you an idea as to wtf will be going on. In the mean time, Ill be working the event so unless one of you clowns decides to look for me, Ill see y'all next year
