...I have some more questions for you guys.
Does anyone have experience hunting rabbit on public land?  I've already checked season dates at Canton WMA and the website says it is the same as statewide season.  I've been looking for any information on whether any tags are needed to hunt rabbits other than a hunting license.  As far as I can tell just the hunting license is needed but as some of you know I've been wrong on hunting regulations before.
This was inspired by paul_the_welder's thread over in GD.  I might even use the same recipe to prepare if I can finally go from 'hunter' to 'gatherer of food'.

ETA: That little shotgun/rifle combo gun he has is awesome!

who hunts with a gun for them, I've killed a truck load of them with my car, even tagged a few when I was on the bike

I always thought you were gtg with just a hunting license, don't think there is any special tags/stamps needed to hunt them, but I haven't really checked the latest regs since I haven't hunted rabbits in a long time; do know there's bag limits for three types (swamp, cotton and jack) but I don't know number per day.

Daily Limit

Cottontail: 10 daily, 20 in possession after the first day.

Swamp: Three (3) daily, six (6) in possession after the
first day.

Jackrabbit: Three (3) daily, six (6) in possession after the first day,
except Cimarron, Texas and Beaver counties are 10 daily, 20 in possession after
the first day.

I'm pretty sure nothing is needed except a hunting license (which I haven't bought my combo hunting/fishing license this year yet).  I'm going to call my dad in the morning and see if I can borrow his 20 gauge for a few weeks (the season ends March 15).  Ideally I'll be able to go up Thursday after I get out of class.  Dan has given me a couple of tips on places to look for turkey up at Canton so in March I'd like to hunt rabbit in the afternoon and then a little before sunset see if I can figure out where the turkeys like to roost.

Whatever you do, don't try to mount a bigfoot or a mountain lion until you get them falling down drunk and tied up.
And don't kiss them afterward.
They usually don't brush their teeth.

ETA If you need help on getting something falling down drunk and then mounting it, you need to talk to Ndenway.

That's where I looked first but last deer season I missed the fact that Canton WMA had a controlled hunt during opening weekend.  There was a game warden waiting for me back at my truck.  Since I hadn't killed anything he let me go with a technical violation, or whatever the actual term is, that only cost $100 instead of the full ticket at $300+.  I've been told by a few people that the game wardens aren't allowed to let violators go with just a warning so I guess he was being as nice as he could be.

This thread is mainly to ask if anyone has any tips or knows of any regulations that it seems I might inadvertently break.  I'll be calling the ranger station up there either later this afternoon or tomorrow as a last check before driving up there.

And as for getting anything drunk first, I live in a college town with no major attractions on the weekends other than bars.  I'm not exactly a stranger to drunk chicks.  Though out here you still can't be too picky.

It would be in your best intrest to read all of it . . . front to back and take cliff notes . . . .

I say this not to be a jerk but because it has helped many here in their endevors to hunt within the law legally. Be it non game or game animals.

This state is black and white on what you can not do. There is (thankfully) not gray area catch all allowing them to burn you at will. I have found that many of the field guys honestly are ignorant of a few things on and off the books. However it has also been my experience that the higher ups at the state office do have a full understanding on what is allowed under the law. They are however reluctant in their admission on some things . . . ie not very nfa friendly or fmj friendly. That said there are occasions where you will be allowed to use both formentioned in my post. Knowing what you need to know in the field is of great help when dealing with someone who isnt quite so sharp on the subjuct. It helps to have refrence materials no matter what your out hunting or when.

Think NFA paper dump. Its in your best intrest to be prepared.

Yup.  It was the "out here you still can't be too picky" part that tipped you off, wasn't it?

Not too many cougars, but plenty of mid-20's and early 30's women can be found at the bar north of town.  Apparently only couples and girls in large groups that plan on cock-blocking each other go to the club south of town.

Fister, I've read everything I can find on that website.  And last fall the ranger didn't find anything wrong other than I didn't have a controlled hunt permit.  I'm 99% certain what I plan to do is legal, and after I call up there I'll know for certain what does and does not go.  The gun range out here I believe has a stack of the regulations handbooks on the counter and I'll pick one up before driving up there as a reference just in case one of the rangers calls me on something.
