Anyone know any scoop on it? I took my little girl there yesterday for an orientation/tour of the school and to submit her application to attend school there. From what i saw yesterday during the orientation, it seems to be a good school, middle and high school are combined but no major issues come from it. The school admin seem pretty adamant about their jobs and teaching. My little girl has to take a test next month to enter... if they accept her application. So, anyone know somebody on the inside? Know if its as good a school as I was seeing?

Excellent school, excellent programs, great hands on learning environment, superior teachers, far superior student body.  Only the best of the best are allowed to attend that place.  I hope she makes it.  Will she have to board there?

Yeah, I graduated from Classen SAS. It's a good school, and focused on education not babysitting, as students with discipline issues or bad grades are quickly sent back to their home schools. I was there the first year it reopened as SAS, and apparently it's much tougher now.

When I was there several of the teachers were actually professionals in their field first, rather than just teachers. One of my civics teachers was a lawyer. One of the art teachers was a working artist, and had actually lived off of his pottery before teaching etc.

All I really know is that only the biggest nerds were the ones who left and went to Classen.

I hope she gets in, it has a reputation as being one of the best.

Nerds - The people you pick on in high school and wind up working for as an adult.

I work for the district and Classen SAS has a very good reputation.  The only personal knowledge I have is that several of my co-workers have sent their kids there and been very pleased.  Also, wasn't it voted one of the nations top high schools recently?

I hope your daughter gets accepted and good luck to her!  I love to hear about motivated students who are applying themselves and excelling.

just to touch on what everyone else has said... It is by far an outstanding institution. I would rank it just as equal to OSSM. I did a tour of both those high schools about 10 years ago and they were the dream schools for any student wishing for great college opportunities.

Good luck!

Both of my kids went/are going to school there.

My oldest graduated last year, and my youngest is in 7th grade.

Excellent school. It's ranked 15th in the country, and has earned it's reputation. They treat your kid like an adult. They assign work, homework, etc.., and expect it to be done.

Both of my daughters are/were music "majors", so I don't have all the skinny on the IB program. As a matter of fact, my youngest just made the All-City band as third chair, so I know the music program is good to go.

I do know that if your daughter is an IB major, she'll be taking AP classes in her senior year. Nothing better than preparing to get college credit while still in high school.

We have to fight the superintendent of PC schools every damn year to get him to sign the waiver for my youngest, but when he remembers where she is going, he drops all the "our school is great for this/that/the other thing". There's no way he can match the education she's getting at Classen.

I've got a friend that sent his oldest son to Heritage Hall and his daughter to Classen. His daughter was much more prepared for college than his son. I think he felt he wasted about $15K/year on his son's education. I told him he probably didn't waste it, his son didn't do all he could to get something out of his education. However, he did tell me the work his daughter was doing was much more advanced than what his son was attempting. Take that for what it's worth.

I wouldn't hesitate one minute sending another kid to Classen. I honestly feel it's the best public school in the city from 6th-12th grade. Bar none.

It really is a great school, I know the chemistry professor. Pretty much, he has them working at college organic chemistry levels. Pretty impressive. However, the only problem is the kids do no get quite the social experience they get form other schools. But then again, that is not as important to some people. The only academic experience close is Casady, but be ready to shell out the coin. Casady is quite a bit above heritage when it comes to the academic expeience and those are really most comparable two schools

I hate kids like that.  Fortunately the kind of guy Larman seems to be on this board make me think his kids will be fine.  But I have had to deal with several people whose parents never really let them hang out with the other kids in school.  They are the rudest mother-f***ers without even knowing it.    Books aren't everything.  I don't care how much you know, if you can't keep yourself from being rude a lot of people will want nothing to do with you.

I would argue that public education no longer gives a "classic" education but one that is politically correct, and not really relevant to the real world and today's society.
I'm hoping this school does give a great education. Being rated one of the top in the nation doesn't necessarily give the reassurance that it does.
To me anyway.

I went to both Heritage Hall (my sister calls it Heritage Hell or the big braums) and Casady. I agree strongly that the academics at Heritage are much weaker than Casady which made my first year at Casady less than enjoyable. I had to basically study at least 5 hours a day to get up to speed with the rest of the class and it

certainly felt like I was taking 20 or more credit hours of college level material. However, I did very well and it certainly made my life at Rice much easier unlike my peers who initially experienced difficulty adjusting to the workload. Coming back to the OP's topic, I wish the OP and his daughter the best of luck. Classen is a

great institution! However, if you are considering any of the OKC area private schools, Casady is generally the best academically. My class had two members that went to Harvard, one to MIT, one to Vanderbilt, one to Princeton, three to Duke, one to Northwestern, one to West Point, a bunch to SMU, and a couple to highly

ranked small liberal arts colleges. My friends who attended OU absolutely dominated the curriculum and are now doing very well in their various professions and postgraduate programs like Medical and Law school.

Little update, we dropped her off at 0830 for the entrance test and we picked her up about 1230. She feels she did good, well find out later this month if they accept her.
